Just curious if anyone else has one of the c products "5-round" magazines. I have one and it only held 4 rounds. they was a bit of play after the 4th round, but not enough room for a 5th round.
I was googling this mag and I found this verbage on one site:
C-Products -
5 round, 6.5 Grendel stainless steel magazine with a blue anti-tilt follower, black finish.
- Please note mags may hold slightly less than stated in the capacity - this magazine is based off of a shorter blocked 5.56 GI magazine and holds approximately 4-5 6.5 Grendel cartridges -
Interesting.......
So, I opened up the magazine to see how they limited the mag size and to my surprise, they are using a collapsed sping to limit the round capacity. It looks like a standard AR mag spring, but the majority of the coils are all stacked up on eachother, acting as a spacer. Only about 4 or five coils wer actually expanded.
So..........I cut off one full coil from the compressed end and reassembled the magazine. Bingo, 5 rounds fit into the magazine! The 5th round fit in easily but there was no extra give or spring play. I decided to cut off another coil. after doing so, I expanded one coil from the other end to add back any lost spring tension.
I reassembled the magazine and all seems to be perfect. Next time, I go to the range, I'll test it out for fully functionality.
