  • faster powders for shorter barrels?

I know that most of the people on here use 20+" barrels. For a shorter barrel, 16" or less, is there an advantage to using a faster burning powder?

The pressure peaks in the first few inches of the barrel. Pistols with really short barrels get an advantage out of fast powders, but it's not that much with short barreled rifles. You are still going to get peak pressure 6 to 10 inches down the barrel.

The blended powders that are coming out try to extend the time that higher pressures are in the barrel by mixing faster and slower powders.
