    VV N530 Powder

I would appreciate some input on Vihta Vuori N530 powder given the following scenario. I took my AR-15 6.5 Grendel (direct impingement), assembled by a well-known AR gunsmith, for its first spin with Hornady, Sierra and Lapua bullets using charges of VVN530 just below max. Chronographed velocities were as stated in the manual, and accuracy was good for starters ( .5 to .8 for 5 shots at 100 yds.), but the rifle consistently failed to lock open (short-stroked), and in some instances, did not extract the fired case. I plan to try VVN140, H335, H4895 and IMR 8208 XBR.

Is there a burn rate incompatability problem with VVN530 in ARs , or do I have a rifle issue? Thanks.

    N530 is the problem

I have a 24" 1-8 twist SAOD upper, 6.5 C.S.S chamber (.295 neck) and had the same results with N530. Imr8208, 2520, Ar-Comp, and Re-15 cycle fine and are accurate. Best bullet for accuracy is 123 Amax <.5 5shot groups. You could change the gas block or reduce the buffer if you really want to make N530 work.
