    Dies stretching brass?

I'm starting to load for my Grendel. I measured some brass after sizing and found all of it was 1.520. Hornady says max is 1.516 with trim of 1.506.

I found three I hadn't sized and the were about the same as unfired rounds at 1.510.

I think my Hornady dies are streching my brass. Has anyone else seen this?

I'll lube my brass better the nextime and I'll look at lubing the necks.

    Any other suggestions?

    Thanks. Dave

You may have your dies adjusted to set the shoulder back too much, which will lengthen the brass. The shoulder should be set back .003" from the fired dimension. 1.520 is an acceptable length, the Hornady data is incorrect. But I would still check your shoulder set back measurement.

It's common and normal for the case to lengthen after going through a full length resizing. Trim when it exceeds maximum recommended length.

I trim brass to 1.520", so that length shouldn't be an issue. And I consider brass length changing slightly due to resizing to be normal, which is why I trim after resizing instead of before.

I suggest use of a case gauge to verify that you're on the right track for shoulder setback.
