    First time reloader - Questions

I have never made but one prayer to God, a very short one: 'O Lord, make my enemies ridiculous.' And God granted it.

Ah... if you will measure OAL bullet length you will see that length is variable in bullets in the same lot. OAL is lenght to the ogive, not tip.

Bullet variation may be the problem, as stated above. The Lee Grendel dies have been problematic, particularly with the soft PPU brass.

For the Grendel C.O.L. is not really a safety issue. If you load it long enough that the bullet engages you can get over pressure. That's usually pretty long on the Grendel.

You can measure it by taking a case with a split neck, or cutting a neck yourself, resize the brass, then make sue the brass fall free of the chamber easily. Stick a bullet in by hand and chamber it, then gently push it out with a cleaning rod.

There should be enough neck tension to keep the bullet from being pushed into the case. Measure it to get your max length with that bullet.

C.O.L can affect your accuracy, particularly with bullets with a skinny ogive like the 123 Scenar. You can almost always load those bullets to magazine lengith with no problem, though.
