I haven't had that much experience with scopes. From what I've heard the vortex viper is a pretty good scope. So here is my question, with the scope having ffp how do the moa adjustments work? I feel like they would be different. or would the adjustments be the same it would just be harder to calculate the distance to the target and the targets size? I'm puzzled.

With a Front Focal Plane scope, 1 MOA = 1 MOA on 6x, or 24x. It doesn't matter. The reticle will change size proportionally with the magnification. The Second Focal Plane scopes require you to have the magnification on one particular power for the angular measures to correlate to the real world, otherwise you have to use conversions.
With the 2.5-10x44 Viper PST, I leave it on 10x the whole time anyway, which is where the Mils correlate with that particular scope.
With the 5-15x44 Viper HS Tactical, the SFP reticle correlates on 15x.
If you get the FFP model, you don't have to worry about it. They are great scopes for the money...worth twice the price in many ways, mainly features. I just used my 2.5-10x44 to shoot out to 1000yds with it 2 Fridays ago, and was able to print a 9.25" group off the back of my truck, from where I was laying in the not-so-stable bed.

So a ten power scope will reach out to 1000? In that case i dont need a 6-24 I would actually prefer something with a lower power. any other scopes you would recommend? i will only be shootin a max of possibly 800yrds if that.

At 1000yds, I prefer a 12-15x max objective, but a 10x can get it done just fine. The Marines and Army have been using 10x fixed scopes like the Unertyl and Leupold M3A up until recently, when variable power S&B and Leupolds have become more abundant with the new sniper systems like the M110/Mk11, M2010, etc.
Mirage is hard to deal with on 10x, but as long as you hold center.

So the viper PST 4-16 would be a good option?

i love my viper 4-16x50ffp. this video is the best explanation i have seenhttp://www.tacticalgearmag.com/profiles/blogs/video-understanding-mils-milliradians?et_mid=514633&rid=25363312
I have a 6x24 vortex on my 6.5 and love it... can dial down for field of veiw then zoom in on target ...
Extra magnification is nice to have and see any corrections necessary.

I know this is a question within a question but what would you all recommend, mils or moa?

I prefer mils, but it doesn't matter much as long as reticle and turrets are in agreement.

Like Drifter said.
That one is seriously a Coke vs. Pepsi, or a Ford vs. Chevy consideration. Whichever you feel comfortable with. Just practice it and make sure your reticle matches your dial adjustments. It's simpler that way. That's one of the reasons people like the Vortex scopes. They actually get it and match moa dials with moa reticles or mil dials with mil reticles.

Only problem with the 6-24x FFP at least for me anyway, there is a lead time on getting the scopes since they are in high demand. I have been waiting on my scope since late December. But im getting it at 20% off so i dont want to cancel and order it anywhere else. So ill just wait. I just finished my Beowulf anyway so i have something else to keep me busy for now.

That is an excellent reference. As soon as he mentioned that he was SOTIC-trained, I figured he had been in a Sniper Team Leader slot in Ranger Regiment, which he later confirmed (1st Ranger Battalion). I really like how he professionally breaks down Mils, MOA's, reticles, wind, and explains clearly how they work for the shooter. His approach is indicative of the level of instruction that is common on the SOTIC side of the house.
Great videos. Welcome, fireman3.

Yup, that's exactly the scope I'm getting, except my wife wanted a new big screen TV, which conveniently cost about the same as a Viper PST 4-16 FFP scope. *sigh*. She owe me now :D
Oh, and that video is great. I knew all that stuff, but it's nice to see somebody explain it so compactly.

+1 on that. You can use the 24X like a spotting scope as long as 6X isn't too much on the low end. I've also seen reviews where they clai the 6-24 has better glass than the 4-16, but I don't know if that's true.

I really like the 6-24X50 PST for the price. The glass in mine is significantly better than the two 4-16X50 PST's I had--though those were early models, Vortex may have updated them a bit since then.
If primarily shooting from a rest at 100+ yds, I like all the magnification I can get. The 6-24 is longer so it may look out of place with shorter barrels but it's almost the same weight as the 4-16 so actual handling isn't really affected.
The 4-16 has more elevation, but the 6-24 has enough to get a Grendel to ~1100 yds depending upon load with a proper 20 MOA mount.
If doing timed drills at closer ranges often or if used for hunting, the 4-16 is the better all around range. Another really nice scope in this price range if you want a better low end is the Weaver 3-15 tactical.
Anyway, some pics of the 6-24:

Welcome to the Grendel Horde Jon. I love my AADmount. I think it kills larues scope mount. I also notice in your pictures there that you have the built in cant bubble now. Looks good. Now if i could only get the Scope to come in. Ive got a case of Grendel waiting on this thing.

+1 Jon your mount is the best... welcome to the horde

Those pics look familiar. Weren't you on the forum before it was attacked last year? Nice stick and pics, especially the reticle picture and resolution.

Thanks guys. Yeah, I was going to the old forum pretty regularly for a while when it went down. I knew this was back up and have stopped in a couple times but I got out of the habit of it. I haven't had much internet time lately anyway.

My viper vortex 6-24x50 PST came in yesterday and it didnt dissapoint. i took the advice of LRRPF52 and the scopes quality is great. Its 50mm objective gathers light well. Its has very good clarity. It has a superfine reticle. And i love the illuminated reticle for dusk shooting. No more losing the crosshairs in dark areas. It works great and the illumination isnt overpowering nor does it haze your reticle any at all. Great scope. I had to wait several months for it but it was worth the wait on Vortex. I am very pleased.
