Anyone tried this?... I'm going to load up a ladder and start at 26.2 and work up to 28.9.. There was a load for TAC at 29, TAC and 8208 xbr are right next to each other on the burn rate chart... Can anyone run this through quickload for me?

badger, you can use the data you posted-you'll be fine= ( x-term loads same as with 8208) -- - (And Tac loads same as with 8208) start .5 lower then work up. From what I've seen of quickload-- it's an over rated program. Real world powder tests always make for better results than the computer generated ideas of the speeds, etc. Get off the couch , and shooot ! -I use 28.5 , x-term-Tac - 8208, as a start point for all my 110 trys,. then idle up to find accuracy., you'll know when the ceiling is hit, then back of .3-.5 to find a decent safe load.

Thanks... turns out i don't have the case capacity for a 28.9... i couldn't even get to 28... stopped at 27.7... I still bet they're going hum... I did
25.9
26.2
26.5
26.8
27.1
27.4
27.7

There was crunchy crunch on 27.7 so I stopped, we'll see how they do.

ladder results are in... pretty interesting... I left out 27.1, 27.4, and 27.7... their vertical wasn't bad, but the horizontal was what killed it for me... Thoughts?

To start, even if these were 100 yard groups, that's not a bad group! That in spite of a span of 0.9 grains of powder too!

What can you tell us about the wind that day?

Are the "25.9" and "26.2" the consecutive powder weights that are closest together?

Nice work on the ladder groups- , what case are you shooting from? AA-Lap-, Sell & bell, - IMI, Rem, Fed, Win., Wolf--??

mostly win fire formed cases... the 26.8 was all hornady though.

Sorry I missed your other questions.. It was at 100... I shot the 26.8 again (had 3 more left and they came out to about .8 moa... not bad at all)..

Wind yesterday was calm... I don't think there was even a light breeze, no grass movement or movement in tree branches...

26.2 is on the left, then 26.8, then 26.5, basically 26.8 touched both of the shots, I worked up the ladder, so from a fouled warm bore it went 25.9, then I marked my shot on a spare target, then 26.2 marked my shot, then 26.8 and marked my shot and just kept working up the ladder to watch for pressure signs and mark my shots.

What kind of group do you think if you go with 26.0 or 26.1 grains?

You are rather fortunate with the wind. My usual shooting places almost always have at least 5 mph in the crosswind component. 5 mph is enough to move a bullet .4 - .5" at 100 yd. The winds are generally more like 8-12 and I once was out there with 25-25mph winds. The geometry of the terrain at our local range causes the winds to have a strong crosswind component almost all the time. So assessing horizontal scatter at even 100 yards can be a challenge!

They may tighten up at 26-26.1.. I wonder what kind of velocity im getting out of the 16" pipe though... I'm hesitant to load up too many more ladders, those projectiles are pricey :).

I hear you on the wind, yesterday I was lucky, usually out at USSA it's pretty damned windy, it was calm yesterday though...

The best accuracy I've had out of two different 6.5's was with that bullet. They were loaded by Carson Specialty Development, I've kinda lost touch with the guy and don't know the availability of his ammo, but it shows that the bullet is good.

It should be good considering the cost. Of course I don't think they're technically selling them anymore and I lucked into a box or 3... Other than punching paper I'm not sure what I'm going to use them for, maybe pigs... elk? I don't know.

anything you want to save the pelt for, of course has to be a varmint in the US. Great for Klipspringer in Africa since it's very hard to not damage the pelt (they have a pelt more like quills that just fall out), and they're always long range shots. This bullet works well in 6.5-284 for those mountain shots.
