View Thread : Supressors?
RU Grendel
Has anyone pondered the idea of supressing their grendel?? I am seriously considering it but I don't know where to start

I have a FA68AR Surefire suppressor on order now, will work with both my 6.5 and 6.8. It also sets back over the barrel so it doesn't add but about 3-4" to oal and it only weighs 17oz.

I am currently having AA build me a Mk12 Mod0 clone in 6.5 Grendel. I am having them use the Billet Upper with the SPR barrel. I am going to talk to OPS Inc and see if i can get them to make me a muzzle brake with the correct threads so I can use one of their 6.8 cans
Basically you could use ANY 6.8 or 7.62 can on the rifle, so the choices are pretty good.
A KAC can would also be a nice choice using a Mk11 or SR-M110
Advanced Armament will do a SPR/M4 overbored to 6.8 i also heard

I am still waiting on an AAC 762-SD suppressor that I ordered to use on my Grendels. I went with the 762-SD because it doesn't wrap back over the barrel like the others mentioned. One of my Grendel hosts is a 10.5" Tactical, and I need a regular style quick detach can so it will clear the gas block.
Any 6.8 or .308 can should work just fine on a Grendel platform. I just chose the .308 can for it's larger volume and because I can use it on a larger variety of hosts. If anyone plans on firing auto - or just hot and heavy semi... the new 762-SD Mod. '08 is going to feature an all inconel baffle stack (even the end cap), and is completely circumferential welded. Rock and Roll Baby! :D

Variable, thats a good choice, AAC makes good stuff. How much does the can weigh? The SBR that I'm putting together is a 6.8 and will have a 12.5" barrel to accommodate the "over barrel" design of the Surefire.
Lars, I questioned ADCO on boring and rethreading a muzzle device I also emailed Surefire to see if they'd make me a MB with the 9/16 thread pattern. Both said NO, I just sent the barrel to ADCO and had them chop off the threads and redo them in 5/8x24, I think it was like $60. Had it back in about a week and a half.

Yesterday Bill reached an agreement with a well-respected suppressor manufacturer to make a dedicated 6.5 Grendel suppressor. Details will have to wait for the company's official announcement, but this will be great news for the 6.5 Grendel aficionado!

Now thats what I like to hear!!! I didn't want to do this rethreading job some speak of. Any idea on the timing of this announcement?

I also have the Surefire FA68AR. It works extremely well on my customized 19" Overwatch. The way it attaches pretty much guarantees repeatable POI shift, and the reflex design reduces blowback. Great can.

They (AAC) just redid their website, and their new site lists the 762-SD at 20 ounces. That is probably not counting the flash suppressor mount. I'll weigh mine when it gets here. I know there are lighter cans out there, but I'm going with the bruiser for auto use. Now if Bill would just make me a 6.5 LMG upper and someone else (Magpul or whoever) would come up with a 6.5 Grendel drum... :D

This is my .277 Jet can that I use on my 6.8, 6.5/284bolt,6.5 Grendel, 260 AR10, and 6MMWOA

Folks,
I use a Lauer Custom Weaponry 30 caliber can. Although I haven't developed any subsonic load yet it seems to work pretty good sound like "10/22". I have no way to actually measure the sound but I'm pretty happy with the results I have.

I need to call bill, i want to know who is going to market a 6.5 can.... I wonder if it will be marked as a 6.8/6.5 can or just 6.5?

I am currently using an AWC Thundertrapp 6.5mm suppressor on my 16" barreled upper. I am still working out the bugs. The rifle is way overgassed with the can attached, I mean throwing fire and powder upon case ejection. I contacted AA about this problem, but they were not much help. The only experience they had, at that time, was with a 10" barreled upper. All they could tell me was that the rifle was deliberately overgassed to guarantee function with any cartridge. So just imagine what effect the can has on the rifle. I could have installed an adjustable gas tube, and I believe that would have fixed the problem. Instead I have recently purchased a 3-way adjustable gas block. It has a full port for unsuppressed fire, partial or smaller port for suppressed fire and "gas off" port for single shot function. I will be installing the gas block and testing/fine tuning, with different weight buffers next week.

Quite a bit of blow back, but the suppression impressed me. Would like to invest in gas piston system, but doubtful it would be for this unit.

I've traded messages with Austin at hearing protection LLC about their up coming suppressor. He stated that they could easily turn out a 6.5 can but would need a decent amount of orders to justify machining. Their prices are good and they seem to get good reviews. BTW I have no affiliation or connection with HP LLC just talked to them online about the above can.

This makes me think too, would anyone else be interested in a group buy on suppressors? We could talk over options and with enough of us we could probably talk a manufacturer into making one or get a current maker to lower their prices.

If the performance/price ratio is high, and the absolute price is fairly low, yes.

in order to use this suppressor would i still have to register it with the ATF and pay the $200 tax? im asking because it says "civilian legal" which puzzles me...because any suppressor could be owned by a civilian as long as it is cleared through the ATF, so im wondering if maybe this one does not require registration.
anubismp
I'd imagine thats more like a reminder to the 80 percent of gun owners who dont know they can own a suppressor( provided they are in a proper state.), its a 30 cal so yeah should be gtg. Talk to LCW though.

There is alot of confusion with class 3 weaponry and silencers. And lauer saying "civilan legal" is dumber then a bag of hair..duuuuh guys..Alot of people say oh its ILLEGAL not matter what to have a full auto UZI with a silencer..Well in SOME states. But in most no big deal to own one, just got to jump through the hoops and have a big wallet.
There is no loophold to get around the $200 tax or the ATF.You cant order a 90% "not a silencer" just "parts".(well you can). And all you have to do is drill the hole out and assemble it.Then you need a Form 1 because you are manufacturing one.Straight up u put anything on the end of your gun that dampens noise..you jump through the hoop and make it right with ATF.Unless its a "mock suppressor" witch to me is again dumber then a bag of hair..Yeah looks COOL but when you get pulled over by a state cop coming home from the range, all the sudden it isnt so COOL to explain.
Here is a guide that explains it all pretty simple.

Just as soon as I clear some paperwork hurdles I will have the WCI Suppressor available.
The problem is having the shop have all their paperwork in order already.
I can design them and have them manufactured, but I personally cannot possess one.
Isn't that nice? :(
Someday soon I hope to leave this state.
Illinoistan, where being middle of the road means you are still left of center.

Have you considered Oregon or Idaho? I love WA but the hippies.... well, you know. As long as they stay in their Seattle bastion I'm cool with WA. Atleast we can own cans.

Warped,
Looking forward to see your suppressor when you get ready to release it. I'm lucky enough to live in a state I can get one.

:o
Yeah but I don't.
I cannot even hold one in my hands.

Maybe someday I can go to a free state and shoot someone Else's :o

You get them done and released, I will get one and enjoy it enough for both of us.
