View Thread : 16" Accuracy

Guys,

My second post. I am building a 16" lightweight barrel i got from War Dog. Anyone have experience with the accuracy and distant for this short barrel?

Rambozo
Depends more on the make of the barrel, and less the length.

Length will give you greater distance only because it allows for greater velocity, which means you stay super sonic longer.

The 16" barrel shouldn't shoot any worse than any other length barrel, and may shoot better considering the greater rigidity.

I got a liberty barrel from war dog. Anyone have experience with it?

Hmmmm.... I talked to Mike from War Dog and he stated that even at 16" it is capable of 1/4" MOA. So we will see.

Hmmmmm.....Indeed!

Anyone claiming that they have 1/4" MOA barrels is stretching it out a ways!

I don't know of a SINGLE reputable barrel maker who will make that statement. There are simply too many variables in putting a rifle together that affect the performance to make that statement.

Since there are so many barrel makers, and no one seems to be able to track down who Liberty barrels is, I'm betting that this is the same company making barrels for Midway and calling them "Stoner" barrels, but that is nothing more than a shot in the dark.

I could easily say that my soda straw barrel is CAPABLE of 1/4" MOA. Then when it doesn't shoot that size groups, I could say, "well, it is capable, there MUST be something wrong with how you put the rifle together!"

No one could ever debate my claim, because I could always point out that under certain specific (but never actually demonstrated!) conditions, I was able to make one of the barrels shoot that well.

Most such claims are just such marketing hype, nothing more.

Caveat Emptor!!!

Guys,

I understand complete. I am looking possible complete YHM upper with match free flowing handguard. Nevertheless, that is why I made this post. Asking for experienced shooters and owners.

Load up some Sierra 120s and let us know how she goes.

My LW barrel will not do 1/4 moa. I am very happy if I break under 3/4 moa, and so far that's better than what any of my other rifles will do.

Well if you shoot most good rifles enough times with a 3 round group, you can get a 1/4" group, but once in a hundred or a thousand is just the law of averages.

Consistent groups and 10 round groups will show the true capability of the rifle a lot better.
