View Thread : anyone have coyote expierence?
Hellcat
yesterday morning i hit a big coyote (70lbs+) at around 300yds using 90gr TNT's. around noon a buddy of mine went looking for it and spotted it while riding his quad about 200yds from where i shot at it. according to him, it wasnt moving very fast, and had something wrong with one of its paws. in the evening we went looking for it again and heard one howling, but there wasnt a whole lot of yipping. anyone have any idea where i might have hit that would cause it to stay in the same 1/4 square mile area while still surviving? i fired 3 rounds total, 2 while it was trotting broadside, and 1 while it was running, giving me a quartering away shot. not sure if i it hit it more than once, but i killed a possum in the same spot a week or two ago using the same rifle/round combo.

Sounds like you hit him in the foot.

Sounds like you need some more target practice on paper...better to get a quick kill. Now one day your gonna have a coyote come sauntering into town looking for the man who shot his paw. :p

BTW, how sure are you on the 70lb number? I know they can get that big, but I don't think I've ever seen one over about 50lbs, in person at least.

In that cold weather, probably has an extra 15lbs of fur!!

i'm pretty sure on the size. it was in an open cornfield and from nose to tail took up at least 3 rows. my buddy got with 15yds of it, and said it was bigger than my black lab, who weighs around 80lbs or more. one other thing is, we didnt find any blood. a hit in the paw would definitly leave some kinda of blood behind. and one of our traps had been set off that day.

Probably missed him then. Could be hanging around because of
A. Hurt foot from a stinkiing trap
B. Maybe a female in heat around there?
C. Easy food sources(sounds like he's eating good)
warped
Get some bait out for him and wait.
gut pile, beef scraps, cheap liver dogfood etc.
Then shoot while he has his face in it.
