View Thread : Troubles in Paradise..... Single Shot 6.5G

I have three grendels now. Bought an almost new 16" M4 upper to go with my 24" Overwatch and 16" hunter. My reload receipe works great in both other rifles. The new M4 shot great out of the box..... one shot at a time. It does not function semi-auto. I checked my gas rings and they looked o.k. but I exchanged them for a set of McFarlands...... still a single shot. There is no wear on the M4 upper, bolt and carrier so it appears new or near new. Tomorrow I plan on using one of the bolt carriers from my other grendels to see if???? Plus I have a box of factory AA ammo I may try too.

ARs can be frustrating at times....... I don't have that problem with my piston XCR with multiple calibers. Makes one want to cuss......

Does it not cycle the bolt carrier at all?

Is the gas tube in place? Is it loose? Is the gas key properly staked?

Do you have one of the LONG pipe cleaners you can run down the gas tube?

Start there.

Gunner,

You may want to check if your getting any gas. Take the upper off. Attach a plastic tube to the exposed receiver end of the gas tube and blow. You could have an obstructed gas tube, mis-aligned gas block or other gas system problem.

Thanks guys, I do have the long pipe cleaner so will try that first. The carrier looks good. If I am not rained out tomorrow it's back to the bench.

Is there no movement at all?? Or, does the bolt move .... but just not far enough?? More info is needed.

IMO Sounds like a gas problem to me.

Check everything that has to do with gas on that AR. Also make sure everything is clean and clear of debris (gas tube).

i.e. Gas block, Gas tube, et.
