Elk Gets DRT'd with 6.5 Grendel

She's lights-out at the shot off the tripod.

How is this possible? Everyone knows you can only use the Grendel for Small to Medium game! It must be that the shooter in the video never got the memo.

    Nice video. Good find, lrrpf52.

P.s. And please spare me the "it all comes down to shot placement..." rhetoric. That is true for virtually all weapons...
If it's true that we are here to help others, then what exactly are the others here for?

I thought I was going to be watching a tracking video of at least a few yards. She fell like a sack of rocks.

Outstanding. What bullet were you using?

I asked the same thing, but don't know. Still waiting. Not mine, just saw it today on youtube.

LRRPF52, looks like they replied to your question and do not know. From the reply I would guess Hornady 123gr factory but that is just a guess

+LRRPFco52 I don't have any of the load information, but we did recover the bullet in the opposite shoulder. It did not retain very well. But after looking at the damage and power I am a huge fan of this cartridge.

That's impressive! My one and only Elk cow required 3 shots in the shoulder with a 340 Whby to keep her from crossing over into another property line.

Lol I was gonna post that video. If your ever lucky enough to draw a Elk tag here in Michigan they say your pretty freaking lucky. I think if you draw one that's it for life or ten years. There's orientation the day before.

But she sure did drop fast! I think the SST is borderline soft for some hunting. Wish hornady would load a GMX, I know they won't load something other than there bullets. Just my .02

Been a fan of the Grendel from the very beginning and haven't second guessed that choice one time.

That was an SST? Looks like it lost some weight going through her, but certainly did the job DRT. A Barnes TSX or 100gr TTSX would have been great as well. Same for a Hornady GMX or GS Customs.

There's a guy whose wife shot a nice bull elk with a 20" Grendel and the 125gr Nosler Partition.

It looks like he shot that cow under 100yds for sure maybe even less, that is the main reason I went with the grendel was because of the ballistics of it.
My wife and oldest daughter will be trying to harvest elk with the grendel this year. I really hope they have the same luck this guy had. Elk are tough, shot a cow a couple years back with a 308 at about 20 yards she ran about 60 yards before she pilled up. I can't wait to find out for myself!!
