    Daughter's First Hog!

Holy moly things never go as planned. Lots of lessens learned here, but in the end, after 6 hours of tracking and retracking the blood trail through the woods and having a friend come out and help us when we got stuck, we finally found the hog and it was a big old milk sow!

Through it all, my daughter was a real trooper. I think she was disappointed that I didn't let her follow the blood trail through the woods/briar/poison ivy in the middle of the night, but when help arrived, she showed the guy around like she owned the place.

The hog turned just before she shot and being inexperienced as a hunter and with the gear, she didn't hold her shot. The shot impacted just behind the shoulder and blew out a racquetball-sized chunk of flesh, apparently smashing ribs in the process and damaging at least one artery and one lung. It was a pretty amazing wound.

The ammo is factory Hornady SST 123 gr.

Way to go, Proud dad and Slayerbeall! I can't wait to take my baby girl....so is it time for her own Grendel yet?
12.5" SBR Grendel - Need Barrel
    Surge - Rugged Suppressor
Been a fan of the Grendel from the very beginning and haven't second guessed that choice one time.

    Aim small, miss small!

Well, let's just say I will be looking into a lightweight build in the near future. I need to do some reading up on barrels and bolts and go from there, I think.

Congrats Brian and Slayerbeall! Now we know the real reason for the 2x 640 core, even if you haven't figured it out yet. LOL.

Based on my experience with this sow, you never want to run through briar when your innards are hanging out. You can see in the video as she runs away that there is stuff hanging off her right side and all that was gone by the time we found her, apparently stripped off by the brush and briar. We found her, wound side down.

The first track through the woods is when I took the pictures. I was crawling in places with a pair of loppers to get through the mess. So I only took a few pics, but there were several more places with tissue and a lot of blood spurts, snort spray patterns, and contact smears.

We found one spot were she went down for a bit and that is where we lost the trail the first night. She got another 50 or 60 yards after that for a total of about 220 yards from where she was shot to where she was finally found.
