    112gr Barnes LRX Prototype

Just got 25 of these bad boys from one of the guys(I'll let him identify himself) here on the forum. These came out exactly as I had asked and I'm extremely excited to test these. Roughly 11.5gr, 1,297" Length.

I intend to work up a decent load using a ladder then run these at long range and try to derive a BC. I only have 25, so I can NOT afford any missteps! So I'd appreciate advice on a good starting point for a load.

My powder options are CFE 223, 8208 XBR, or N540.

The intent here is to find the optimum LRX for the Grendel by finding the best balance between velocity and BC. If I have some left for hunting great, but not a requirement as of yet.

What length of barrel are you going to use Cory?

Beautiful. Very intriguing weight. Should be wonderfully balanced for a long-range monometal. Good luck!

@Cory you get all the cool toys to play with
12.5" SBR Grendel - Need Barrel
        Surge - Rugged Suppressor
Been a fan of the Grendel from the very beginning and haven't second guessed that choice one time.

Let me know if you run short, there are ten(I think) that I can turn down and send u more. The other five I have are 107 grain before I knew u wanted 110 - 113 range. Hope these do what ur looking for

I'm going to run these tests out of my 16", I think. I'm open to using my 24".

However the intent for this is to develop an optimum Grendel Solid for hunting, so my 16" fits right in the middle of that build. I have high hopes for an LRX being useable in my 11.5".

I bought a caldwell sled, so I could take as many variables out of this as possible.

I'll be watching with great interest. I have had great results from the stock 127g LRX in my .260, i would love to have a Grendelized version!

For 11" and 16" barrels I would pick XBR and start at 28 grn. Load them .015" from contact.

Thanks! I suspect that XBR may be the better option for an optimal load. However, I'm thinking CFE may be the better option for this experiment. CFE has proven to be very forgiving in the Grendel and that could prove very beneficial here. Where as XBR is known to have a wall where pressure seems to significantly spike, at least in the 123gr pills.

Another who will be watching with a great deal of interest Cory. That is the weight that I think would be optimum for a bit of stretched out hunting and the bullet I would prefer as a factory offering. It would be right in the sweet spot for my Grendel-Max and should run 2800-2850fps.

Have you put much XBR through the 16" rifle? I think that "edginess" will dissipate as the barrel length decreases. It's just a guess, but something im in the process of exploring with my 12.5". I think CFE will be a safe bet for the 16" barrel but not so sure about the 11"

That kind of velocity would be phenomenal. I just hoping to get close to 2550 fps out of my 16" Grendel. And a G1 BC of 0.420.

I see what you're getting at. I'm interested in seeing what you come up with here. My initial tests will be done with my 16", it looks like further tests with my 11.5" will be in order with the XBR.

I had these here for months- ran out of time to tweak them. So I asked RS to help us out. He did a great job.

I sent a box of LRX to D. Davis 2 years ago in a lighter trim- not sure if he shot them yet- you guys can compare notes. It will be interesting to see how well they fly.

I sent some tweaked 120, down to 112, ? TTSX- to Rickoshay also- maybe he can chime in too.

Xbr, or cfe 223 would be my choices.
