    Copper solids for .14/ea

I ordered 2 packs, 24 feet. I figure I can turn 260 100gr copper solids for $36.00. I might try some 90gr or even 85gr thanks to Sneaky.

    Get em before they're gone.

Yes, I don't have CNC, so it's time to do a little experimenting. I'll dig out my "ball turner" that I made for the lathe so that it can be off-set to turn ogives and try it. The other option, is taking an old file or parting tool and grinding the ogive into it. Then turning it all at once. Hopefully one or the other will produce a useable product. This was another idea I had in mind when I bought the ER-40 collets for my lathe.

Understood Sneaky, this is a project that I thought about when I was trying to make a pointing die for swaging bullets from "spent" .22 rimfire cases. I was trying to make a lap to polish the die with. Then I thought if I could come up with a consistent method of making the laps, why not make bullets for my "larger" calibers out of copper. It's still a work in progress, I've just ordered the materials now.

Well I finally got around to trying to turn a few bullets from the solid copper rods. Lets just say it is a nightmare. It wants to flow instead of cutting and is gummy. It grabs the tooling, even sharp HSS. I even shattered one cutter. Here are some pics of the first attempts. It grabbed the cutter and wrung the solid copper rod off at the collet.

Sorry file size is too big. I'll be back soon as I figure that out.

"Nightmare" is a little strong. There was no screaming, no bleeding and very little cursing. But it is a very very steep learning curve. And it's not like you were totally unsuccessful.

Drift agreed, no one lost any body parts. However, when it takes :30 to do what I thought could be done in less than :05 that's a nightmare. But it's still in the "learning curve" stage so hopefully it can be improved on. I weighed both bullets, the first one was 115gr, and the second was 98.9gr. Wish I could get the pics to upload.

Anyway, I'm not sure what's going on. I checked the settings on my "tablet". The smallest pictures it takes are 1280X960, and all the pictures I've posted in the last few months have been from that device. Now suddenly, I get an error stating that the file size is too big and exceeds 1000X1000.

Hmmm. . . . Let me reset the file size thingie to 1300 x 1300, and see if that works. (Can you tell I'm a computer whiz?)

                  OK, try it now?

Ok, here are a couple of pics pretty self explanatory with the previous post. Thanks Hanka and Sneaky!

Posting some pictures for Custemcutter. We built some lowers today. They started out as 80% lowers and we made them into 100%ers. This was my first ever attempt. .. Kinda shows you how easy it is. The one with the trigger guard is my PF side charging lower we kinda used as a template because the template CC bought sucked so bad.

It's a learning curve. As long as it functions. I have some of those 80% units inbound. Hope CC has it dialed in by then. He said he did, I'm not worried.

BTW. CC! Those pills you made look AWESOME !!!! I made a few Barnes up like that 5 years ago. I used 1 for our first attempt at 3K with a 100 grn. pill.

Keep on this, let me know if you need any data from here- to help out. Try installing a cavity in a few. Wheels are turning......

I tried a couple with Al tips Sunday night after Church. Sharpened the HSS 3x's, reduced the overhang by half and copper still grabbed instead of cutting. But, I just thought of something else to try.
