WTB: 6.5 grendel dummy rounds (2)

I'm looking for a couple of dummy 6.5 grendel rounds to test my build with safely. All I have are live rounds and no reloading equipment yet. Can anyone make me a couple of dummy rounds for testing a build? (Like snap caps.)

You could just remove your firing pin and test cycle everything.

That can lock a gun up since the cam pin is no longer clocked by the firing pin. If the cam pin rotates and moves radially away from the bore center when the bolt goes into battery, it seizes up the bolt in the extension.

Don't do it. Guys have seized their AR15's up that way in the past.

Thanks for the info. I have done the remove firing pin several times and guess I was lucky. I will not try that again.

What chamber do you have? My process starts before I even install the barrel into the upper.

I take several different factory ammo samples, ranging from both Horandy's, to PPU, to AA 123gr Scenar, to PF 120gr Scenar-L, to some of my dummy cartridges, and I seat them in the chamber deeply.

I then hold the barrel muzzle up and see if the cartridge will fall out with gravity. If it does, I then check the throat length with longer-loaded dummy cartridge to make sure I have a good throat, not some Roy Weatherby abortion with insane jump.

If the cartridge does not fall freely with gravity, I lightly tap the extension in my palm. If it falls freely then, I look at the ogive for any evidence of kiss from the lands, which I usually never see.

If it doesn't fall freely with a tap, it tells me that we have some engagement with the lands, and once I push it out with a rod carefully, I inspect and color the ogive with black marker to repeat the test, measuring how much land engagement there is. Most new barrels will have tool marks in the lands that can be abrasive at first, and need polishing.

If the throat is so short that it is jamming the lands to the point you would need to mortar the gun, it needs additional finish reaming. I've seen that on 2 barrels that were cut with an unknown reamer.

I have not had this happen with AA, PF, or Lilja barrels.
