    Virginia ground hogs

I finally got my Grendel out to hunt with. I zeroed it at 100 with factory Hornady 123 SSTs. I chose that distance since I usually hunt by spot and stalk and it helps to be able to hold dead on for close in head shots.

I walked into one of my favorite spots and two chucks ran for their holes. After about 20 minutes one popped it's head out and would not come out any further. I waited hoping for any movement but seeing none I used a tree for support to steady my aim. I couldn't go prone because the chuck was blocked by high grass. The cross-hairs were steady and lined up just under the chucks eye when the shot broke. A short 75 yard stroll and I had proof my aim was true.

The second one was a small one out feeding in high grass. A 50 yard kneeling shot dispatched that one.

The third hog was closer to 225 yards and was out feeding across a small draw. I slipped up to where I could get prone with my bipod and have a clear shot through the grass. The 123 SST lived up to its reputation and provided an audible thump as a confirmation of the hit.

All-in-all an enjoyable evening in the hay fields of western Virginia.

Nice job! Roe will have to add a new species to his graph.

Yes, the western Virginia area, particularly the I-81 corridor from Winchester to Roanoke, is beautiful country.
