    Bipod or shooting sticks.

What are you all using on/with your Grendels?

As I intend to use my grendel/s to hunt figured I would seek info on the hunting portion of the forum.

    Shooting sticks?

    Mono
    Bi / crossed
    Lenght

    Bipod.
    Brand

    Adjsutment Range.

Essentially pros and cons / why you are using your solution or combination of solutions.

I use a Harris bipod with a LaRue quick detatch mount. I have both the short and long bipod but I mainly use the long one. I have it on my 20" barrel Grendel. I love this set up. Weight is not a concearn for me.

      For hunting, neither.

      I prefer a tripod.

I find myself only using the bipod at the range off a bench, often folded up.

In the field, I might as well not even mount it because there is hardly ever a chance that a bipod will work, unless you get one of the crazy long legged bipods.

I just carry a tripod, use the PIG Saddle, and I can shoot from a very steady platform.

In th country I hunt I have a detached stoney point mid height bipod (carried on my belt) and mostly use it from a sitting position. I have a bog-pod as well but can always get to a sitting position on the hill so dont carry it there although it is ideal on another property as all shots are from standing so the bog-pod is the best there is.

When hunting large game, I usual have a FP in a elevated location, so the harris 9-13 S-BRM gets me above the foliage. For predator aND field hunting I use the Harris 13-27 S-BRM so I can suport the rifle wile sitting. NOT as stable as a tripod and takes a little practice.
LRRP that picture in the woods looks beautiful. Hunting spot?

I gave up on bipods in the hills I hunt. They just aren't tall enough when you're sitting on the side of a sandhill. For the past several years I've used a simple pair of crossed sticks. I made them so when they are folded all the way open you can use them for prone also. Steady enough from the sitting position for 300 yd shots on coyotes, especially if you have a back rest.

I don't see this as an either/or question. It all depends on where/how you are hunting. When I need to be low or have access to a table, bipods are the way to go. To be portable, mono, bi, and tripods are the way to go, but versatility can often become an issue. Often, the most versatile for use are bulkier or heavier.

I am often on the move, covering long distances with frequent, where speed is sometimes important, short setups, on varied terrain. I like a little more stability than a bipod, so I use Primos Trigger Sticks. The full size version works fine for kneeling or standing and can be made to function for when you are sitting on your butt, but the last option is far from ideal. The Trigger Stick monopod works fine if you like monopods, but the bipod concept does NOT work.

If I was going for longer stands in a singular location or where swiftness of deployment isn't an issue, I would go with a setup more like LRRPF52.

There is no one answer, just preferences for different sorts of scenarios...

I use both Harris bipod on rifle and a set of shooting sticks made from 2 fiberglass driveway markers
With bipod legs down can also be used as a vertical foregrip if i need to take a FAST standing shot

I've been using the Primos Jim Shockey tripod for a couple years, it's a very nice piece. It's not as compact as a legit tripod, but it's very quick to get setup and can accommodate any terrain. It'll go from sitting on your ass to standing with one hand and just a few seconds. I'm a fan of it.

Personally when I am hunting I have a BR bipod on, but also pack the Bog Pod shooting sticks. IMO when you are involved in spot and stalk type hunting, you just never know what the situation is going to call for.

fiberglass driveway markers humm. I thought of using Fiberglas poles from a tent with 2 or 3 sections to fold up and make smaller but have not come across something like that. What I like about shooting sticks is the hight versatility. For the most part it don't make any difference where you are, or the position your shooting in. Prone don't work well with long sticks this is why iam looking for some folding tent with elastic bands inside. Thanks for the idea

I've wanted a set-up like that. How much does a decent tri-pod and mount go for?

Shooting sticks also can be used as improvised tent poles with an improvised tent (55gal trash bag as it is easy to carry and takes up almost no space in a ruck sack)

Be interesting to see that. Have you tried it?

If using three legs and they splayed enough you could also make a type of umbrella. Keep most of the rain off you in a downpour.
