    Local food supply

Been thinking about building a 6.5G pretty seriously. Over the past few weeks I have made my rounds at all my sporting goods stores (two Sheels, one Cabelas and one Bass Pro) and nobody has any 6.5G ammo.

Kinda gives me qualms that nobody within 2 hours of driving has any ammo on hand. I don't have any of the stuff to reload yet or really the time to do it... so it would all be online with no plan B.

Is this the norm or is my area lagging getting on the bandwagon?

It's the norm in my area as well but i have noticed buying 6.5g ammo online is always cheaper then the stores that do carry it so i buy online anyway.

Lol I live in the northern tip of Maine, and if I want anything other than 243, 270, 30-06 or MAYBE 300WM I have to travel four hours to Portland ME at the Cabelas store, so rolling your own, or ordering factory ammo is the norm here.

Ordering Ammo isn't a hastle whatsoever, and often times if you shop smart, you can purchase iver 100-$150 worth and get free shipping, at cheaper costs than LGSs.

That brings up another HUGE benefit of the Grendel. GREAT factory ammo from Hornady, Fedral and other makers. The Hornady stuff is top notch, and can usually be found for $20-$25 per 20. If you want to plink you can order Wolf steel case ammo for around $5-$7 per 20 rounds!!

If you are limited to factory ammo, its a great round to choose.

Ive been almost exclusively ordering ammo online for 4-5 years now. My local store stocks everything I would need but is $3-4 more per box plus I have to pay sales tax. There are just too many online stores that what I need much cheaper even with shipping for me to consider it. It is nice to be able to go down to the store in a pinch but its been a long time since I have.

Most places around me are car ring grendel ammo now but they want stupid prices for it most in the 25 to 30 dollar range for box of 20.

I get my ammo online from ammoseek and PF, ammoseek has hornady loaded ammo and have never paid over 20 bucks for a box of 20.

I don't usually buy ammo by the case, just a box here and there when I venture to the big city. Feels kind of weird to build a gun that nobody stocks ammo for too as far as hoping it is really catching on and not just what guys on the internet say... so to settle it I ask the guys on the internet of course.

Nowhere I have been across Georgia and Florida have had grendel ammo in Stock. They all say they will be glad to order it.

I reload and have plenty of components but for hunting I like to use the Hornady 123 SST. It shoots great in my gun and I don't care about the brass. I like to keep up with my lapua range brass.

I buy it 10 boxes at the time off the Internet when I see a sale.

Cabella's and now both Sportsman's Warehouses within 15 minutes of me carry 6.5 Grendel 123gr AMAX and 123gr SST.

I've always ordered online though, and usually get it for $17-$18/20. Ammoseek is your friend. Can't remember the last time I bought ammo off the shelf for any of my cartridges. Maybe some 12 GA for my Scout Troop last year.

Was at Cabela's again yesterday and noticed they had their Grendel in the middle of the Creedmore. Both Hornaday and American Eagle.

Nowhere near me has any in stock. I only buy ammo at stores in an emergency anyway. It's always cheaper online, and I don't waste gas to buy it.
