Howa Mini 6.5 Grendel - First Day

I took my new Howa out today for a break in run. This is my first 6.5 Grendel so it was a break in day for me, too. I put a 22" barreled action from Brownells on a Boyd Heritage stock and topped it off with a Weaver 6.5-20 x 44 AO scope that I've had around for a while. Ammo used was Hornady 123 gr SST. Shooting was at 50 yards. The day was sunny, warm and windy, 10 mph gusting to 35.

    First impressions:

The round has more pop to it than I had expected. It should be adequate, if not ideal for mule deer, white tails, and antelope.

The rifle is really a little sweety. The bolt took a some breaking in but smoothed out nicely. I took the rifle out with the action torqued to 35 in lbs. I had a couple fail to feeds with a single round in the magazine. I upped the torque to 50 in lbs when I got home and took care of that problem. Today was not focused on accuracy but I see an excellent potential in this rifle.

The first 10 shots are single shoot & clean break in shots & playing around with the scope. The last 10 shots are 2, 5 shot & clean groups with no attempt to adjust for wind.

Good report!! I like that stock too. Been thinking about getting one. I'll be posting my multicam stock for sale.

I'm kinda partial to the hogue but kinda want a youth stock so my youngster can shoot it too.

I'm impressed with them as well. The featherweight is truly a featherweight. Light and easy to throw to the shoulder.

The 123gr bullets are more than fine for any animal under 400-500 pounds. Lot's of them have been killed with similar speed 100-120gr 6mm to 7mm sized cup and core bullets, just put it in the heart-lungs and you will kill them just fine.
