    .125 Bolt for Precision Build

Just figured out that my barrel takes a .125 bolt. I have one from my 7.62x39 AR upper that seems like it'll work but it was made by a brand that went out of business due to quality control reasons so I just don't trust it for my Grendel.

How much of a factor is the bolt on overall accuracy? I was thinking of getting the Anderson 7.62x39 BCG but I would prefer something that is more "match grade." One of the easy to clean coatings is a plus as well. Is there anything out there that will fit the bill? I'd be open to buying the bolt only or the full BCG.

As long as your bolt and carrier are in spec and the chamber is headspaced for that bolt, they don't have to be labeled "match grade". Get the Anderson if that is what fits your barrel. Put the iffy one in spare parts drawer!!

Sorry if this is a hijack but I am in a similar situation. A lot of 7.62x39 BCG's include an "enhanced" firing pin. I think the difference is a slightly longer protrusion from the bolt to deal with hard primers on some of the com-block ammo. Is this extra protrusion a problem when it is used with 6.5 Grendel ammo?

Why are y'all not buying a grendel bolt? There are a few pierced primer threads goin on. A longer firing pin sounds off to me, a better metal or stronger alloy in a firing pin sounds better.

I have an AIM BCG in my 7.62x39, not a crazy round count thru it but I have no complaints. Does come with an enhanced firing pin though (a normal one is like what $6-7?)

My 5.56 has an Anderson BCG in it, no complaints at all with it either.

Just because something is marketed as "Match Grade" does not mean that it will match your barrel. If I were you, I would pick a fairly reliable or well-known bolt manufacturer of 7.62x39 (0.125") bolts and call it a day. I've had good luck with Anderson bolts in my budget 5.56 and 6.5 builds, so I would feel pretty confident in trying their 7.62x39 bolts.

Because the barrel manufacturer set it up for the x39 bolt.

Better question is why to people keep buying barrels that are set for a x39 bolt?

I can say stay away from Surplus ammo's bolt, and Radical Firearms bolt. Broke a lug off of both of those somewhere between 1k and 2k rounds. The last one I got was from Underground Tactical, it's labeled Grendel type 1 on their website. Noticeably thicker walls around the case head and definitely well made. Made from aircraft grade 9310 iirc. I just ordered another Grendel bolt, .136 recess, for the ar15performance 6 predator barrel I just ordered.
