Back in the scene and looking...

Guys, This is my first post from years away.
I have been out of the rifle scene for a while and am itching to get back. I had a grendel ar years ago and loved it.
I am wanting to get a bolt action grendel. In my state os PA we can only use bolt action.
I saw Howa makes one but very limited in stock. Any good gun builder out there that can make me one? I was hoping to keep the cost around $1,000. I have a pretty decent scope to put on it to start. I also want to get into handloading to make this a nice hobby! Any good info out there (easy) to get me started in re-loading as well?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Any smith should be able to set you up with a grendel bolt action. Mini Mauser actions would work.

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Penn change their law?

No, they just passed the use of semi auto in the government. It has not been passed in the Game Commision.
I do not think they will pass it on big game anyway. They might on varment/predators.

Howa has bolt rifles and barrelled actions. Or do as I did and get a barrel - put it onto a savage you have on-hand...
Reloading info, see hornady book, hodgdon magazine, or even better are the 2 volumes specifically for Grendel you can order form on the forum here...

Good luck on the CZ. They have not been released to dealers yet. About two weeks ago I got an email reply to an inquiry to CZ saying it should be 2 to 4 weeks?? When I put down a deposit in March, my dealer said that CZ had informed him only 300 were coming, and that 293 had been committed at that time. I guess I was lucky, and put down a deposit to reserve one.

I have read somewhere that Penn. just changed their laws allowing semi auto rifles for hunting. Being from Texas I did not pay too much attention to where I read it. You might want to check the fish and game service there and verify, that would be better than taking anyone, including me, on one of these forum at face value about the rules. Better than getting ticketed and possibly loosing a gun or worse.

You might want to read this. I just found it

I am not in the market for an AR platform at this time anyway. I think a bolt Grendel would be nice to have.

Wouldn't I need a Savage in a 7.62x39 bolt face? I do have a older Savage Edge chambered in a 270. Barely used...would that be a starting point?

I understand completely. I got the bug several years back, and built several AR types, 3 in Grendel, all with high quality components, and a several with gas piston operating systems. All shoot well, but, I still like my blued steel and nice wood. Call me old but the AR types just don't have any soul.

Ya, kind of how I feel. ARs have their place, but I am looking to get into a nice Grendel bolt.

Take a look at the CZ 527 American. If the Grendel will be anything like my 527 in .22 Hornet it should be a winner. Right now I think the only problem is availability and delivery. I understand some folks have rebarreled the 7.62x39 carbines. I like the stock on the American or standard rifle better than the carbine so my reaon for waiting. Now if they had made a 7.62x39 in a full stock model I would have rebarreled one of those in a heartbeat.

The Mini Howa with a Boyds stock may be just what you are looking for.
