    24"+ barrel velocity question

hey guys, new to forum. i am wanting to build a grendel bolt gun for practical/tactical matches. and am wanting to run eith er 130 jlk's or 123 scenars. 6mm br did a write up on a guy who made an f classer with a 28 in barrel and used the 130's moly'd and was consistently getting 276o at the muzzle. i really dont want to haul around a long freakin 28" tube, not heavy, just long and awkward. but what kind of velocities are you all getting with those bullets and 24" tubes? and who messes with moly? i'd rather not, but if there is a way to self coat that is cheaper than the silver scenars, give me deets please. it may be necessary to get that extra vel or drop pressures. o, ill be going with a 5r barrel so if anyone has any thoughts on that will appreciate! thanx!!!

Adding 4" to a 24" barrel of a Grendel will likely get an extra 50-100 ft/sec.

I can equal Hornady 123 A-Max factory loads using Horn. 123 A-Max bullets or Sierra 123 HP's using AA2520, RP 7 1/2 primers in Hornady brass without high pressure signs. I get approximately 2660-2670 fps in my 24" heavy barrel with Hornady factory 123 A-Max and my loads about the same. My 6.5 Grendel is on an AR semi-auto platform.

Remember that bolt actions don't have some of the constraints that the AR platform imposes. You are able to load to higher pressures, and you don't have the issues related to gassing (bolt swipe, pressure differences at the gas port, etc.).
