    Accuracy1st training

Has anyone taken a class with them? I am signed up for the Feb class in Lampasas. I plan on running my 308 but want to take my Grendel too just to see what she can do.

I have read lots of good things about them and watched the Magpul video. Any insight would be appreciated. Also would like to know if anyone wants to take the class with me!

Adding some load development pics I took the other day. Shot these at 200 yards with my 308.

Looks like May was a great month of shooting.
If it's true that we are here to help others, then what exactly are the others here for?

Todd Hodnett is good people. I would load up a bunch of Grendel for that course as well, as you may be surprised. .510 > .4___ BC, and it will come into play with the distances and wind conditions he will have you shoot in.

What type of Grendel do you have? If I was attending his course, I would take my .260 Rem AR10 with 130gr VLD's, and my Grendel with 123gr A-MAX/SMK/Scenar with as tight of a twist as possible.

Todd has seen better results with abnormally tight twists and short barrels at extreme distances, like taking a 16" AR10 .308 carbine out to a mile with the 175gr SMK, or the 300gr Lapua Scenar out really far with a tight twist .338 with a bull 20" barrel. He uses a lot of high-end barrels in his rifles, and is a wealth of experience.

You will really want a scope level for his course, and you might as well buy his, which has a very tiny bubble level on a curve, for more accurate angle measurement.

My grendel is a frankengun I put together with a 20" krieger 1:9. I posted a lot about broken bolts in another thread. I didn't get to shoot it much before the bolt broke.

Yes I Trued everything per your thread about ar accuracy but still had a broken bolt.

I have one of David tubb's levels on my 308. That rifle put me on a 4" plate at 1000 yards at best of the west in liberty hill. That range always has the same direction of wind though. I want to learn more.

Heh. Yeah those desk calendars make good backers. The office has them laying around all the time.

I think your bolt issue was metallurgy. If you get a good bolt made from properly heat-treated steel, it will last you. Multiple vendors have come online with 9130 bolts in the past 6 months, so you should be able to get a well-made one by the time of the course. I'm actually interested to see what Todd has to say about the Grendel, knowing his outlook on things (shorter quality barrels, high BC pills), so I'll do what I can to help you get a 9130 bolt or 2. You should always take at least 2 rifles to a course, since Murphy's law rules.

Yes. Metallurgy/bad batch was exactly what's research brought me to as well, but some didn't like to hear that and basically called BS on my research.
I have ordered two bolts through precision firearms, and talked to the guys at underground tactical (and they are local) about getting two. Hoping to have something by then. I really would like to have a good load put together for it before the class. Any help you can offer would be much appreciated.

On another note, peter at accurracy1st told me of we don't have 5 people the class will cancel. Right now it is just myself and my cousin. Soooo. Anyone want to join me?? ;-)

I'd love to, but I'm saving up for some DM training in Utah later this year. You and your cousin could join LRRPF52 and I

I'm not sure I know what DM training is? If this class gets canceled I would be looking for something else. I'm hoping it doesn't though because I have the logistics set up for this one and driving an hour across Texas compared to Flying to Utah is a pretty major difference.

I'd like to put out a heads-up for the 6.5 Grendel community regarding some of the training I have been running, and offer it to the horde. Living in the Rocky Mountain region, with all the excellent terrain and shooting areas that we have, there are some great opportunities to learn to employ our carbines and rifles in more

The Grendel is made for this stuff.

I'm not trying to snipe anyone from Accuracy First's training, as that is one of the best long-range courses in the world that you can attend.

My DM Course focuses more on shooting AR15's from 200-600yds, with 75% of the shooting done from difficult positions.

Something I found yesterday from here

He attributed their victory to the quality training they received weeks before the competition.
“Chance and I work well together and we went down and trained with Todd Hoddnett, who operates Accuracy 1st, down in Texas. We trained for about two weeks, two months ago and we were actually alternates in this event, but we ended up competing,” explained Homeyer, who’s a native of George West, Texas.

He said that because they are both instructors, finding time to train was challenging.
“We had students, but we had to train when we could,” he added.

Accuracy 1st is a premier, long-range shooting school for special operations and Marine Corps snipers and the training they received in Texas was critical to propelling them to the top of the competition, Homeyer pointed out.

“It was great training with Todd,” he said. “He actually trained the top three teams in the open and service class of the competition.”

NEXT WEEKEND!!! I am excited! Got all my 308 rounds built and the rifle is on. Feel like the grendel is running like it should. Can't wait to go!

Trued both grendel and 308 at 870 yards today. Made hits all the way to 1175 with the 308. Bullet goes subsonic at 1060. Doesn't matter when you true your data you still make hits well beyond. Grendel performed as expected. Hit all the way to 1040 consistently when it is supposed to be subsonic at 984 yards. Didn't shoot but 42 rounds through it. Focused on 308.
