Went hunting with my bolt Grendel and 14.5" Ultralight Grendel just west of Junction, TX. My son hunted with the Ultralight while I hunted with the bolt.
Ultralight was fed AA factory 120 Nosler BT while I fed the Savage bolt hand loaded Hornady 129 Interbond.
We both took two whitetail each.
Ultralight: 1 x neck shot @ 130 yards = DRT. 1 x neck shot @ 150 yards = 1 hour of tracking. The boy must have flinched (or the wind was more of a factor) and his neck shot resulted in a miss of the vertebrae with a pass through the wind pipe just below the head (he was aiming where the neck meets shoulders). Tracked the blood trail for approx 0.5 miles as the coyote runs (.25 miles as the crow flies) from the deer stand. Some good learning for the boy.
Bolt Grendel: 1 x shoulder shot @ 130 yards = DRT. 1 x neck shot @100 yards = 30 yard run then drop.
All bullets were complete pass through. Two of the neck shots had popped blood vessel in hind quarters.
