    Anyone Use Much H335

    Just wondering if anyone has had much experience with H335 in the Grendel with 120-123 gr bullets?

    I've shot it a little. I'm gonna run some loads with 100 gr Nosler BT Sunday. Shoots pretty well for me, still tweaking though.

      I have only used it with the 90 gr TNT so far. I am going to try it with some of the PPU 120 MPT bullets that Wolf uses in the Gold Line ammo. They are cheap plinking bullets from Grafs.

        I've used it with 85 grain to 100 grain bullets. I like it.

          There is quite a bit of data for it from both Hodgdon's and forum members in both 6.5 Grendel Reloading Handbooks.

          The best speeds Hodgdon's got with the 123gr SMK was with 28.7gr of H335, and it had the lowest pressure of all their other powders they tried with 123gr SMK, generating 49,800psi with 2508fps. Don't extrapolate data from one bullet and use it for another though. It's best to have as much data as possible, and work out your load. For the solid Barnes TSX, Hodgdon's used 25.0gr starting load, and stopped at 28.0gr. For the 123gr SMK, they started at 26.0gr, and maxed at 28.7gr.

          PA_Allen and rickOshay have done a lot of loading with H335 under several hunting bullets, to include:

          * 95gr V-MAX at 2810fps from a 20" gun
          * 95gr V-MAX at 2991fps from a 24"
          * 100gr Barnes TTSX at 2765fps 20" gun
          * 100gr Nosler Ballistic Tip at 2807fps 20"
          * 100gr Nosler Partition at 2802fps 20"
          * 120gr Barnes TSX at 2415fps 24"
          * 120gr Nosler Ballistic Tip at 2395fps 20"
          * 123gr A-MAX at 2571fps from 24" gun
          * 123gr A-MAX at 2399fps from a 16" gun

          It's all on page 50 of Volume I, and pages 79-89 in Volume II. We have a lot of good data for H335 and 120-123gr pills, of various constructions as you can see.

            I've read many good review about the H335. If you can find some try it. I've been watching the shelves of my LGSs for the last year and haven't found it yet but it's next on my list of powders to try.

              Based on Grendel data on Hodgdon's website, it seems that H335 data and IMR-8208 data are darn near identical regarding charge weights, velocities, and pressure.

              8208 is likely more temp stable, but some individual barrels might get better accuracy with ball powders. And H335 might meter better in some cases.

              I haven't used H335 much in the Grendel, but I see no reason why it shouldn't work reasonably well.

                Thanks all. I picked a pound of it up Friday. Figured I would play with it some. So far I have CFE, BLC(2), and now some H335. The only thing I haven't been able to get my hands on is some 8208. Hoping to try several different loads to find the one that my Grendel "likes" best.

                  I finally got some 8208 so I'm going to try it, so far I have used CFE-223, 2520, Varget (Dont try it, its a waste), and Tac. I like the CFE but the recoil is a little snappier to me (Sharper, like a ice pick, not the usual push like 2520 and tac give) I'm really sensitive now that I had the surgeries on my shoulder. I can tell slight differences in recoil now, before I never noticed. I once fired 50 rounds of 40mm from a 203 and didnt even feel sore. Most people get sore after a few.

                    Just a quick update for those using CFE-223 - Hornady has an errata to their Hornady Handbook of Cartridge Reloading – 9th Edition for this powder:

                      you would really think that they would spend a bit more time proofing those manuals before releasing them, i mean really, what kind of shoestring budget are they working with?

                        Work up to 30 gr of H335 with the 100 TTSX or 100 NBT. Both are great combinations.
                        Best,

                          Thanks again all. I plan on shooting 120 gr NBT's.
