Grunt4Lifes first AR build and first Grendel

Well gentlemen, here is my first build. It truly was a learning experience and fun to complete. While I am well versed in military marksmanship, I had no armorer experience. I by no means consider myself an expert now, but I do have a greater understanding of my weapon system.

    Here is my build list:
    Anderson Manufacturing forged lower
    BCM forged upper
    Stag Arms small parts pack
Magpul stock and pistol grip (FDE)
    BCM large Gunfighter charging handle
    Lilja 18" medium/heavy barrel
RCA M16 nitride bolt carrier with adjustable gas key
RCA nitride cam pin, firing pin, and firing pin retaining pin
    BCM H3 buffer
Vltor low profile clamp on gas block
    Wilson Combat gas tube
Wilson Combat flash hider (similar design to the Smith Vortex but supposedly no ringing sound)
Nordic Components NC1 extended rifle free float hand guard

The upper, lower, and hand guard have been Cerekoted in a three color Kryteck style camo. I did lap the upper receiver and bedded the barrel with blue loc-tite. The feed ramps were polished and the ejector pin was radiused by LR 52 when I bought the barrel. I also lapped the bolt and polished the trigger. I intend to replaced the trigger group once I make up my mind on which way I want to go. I used green loc-tite when I installed the gas tube and bedded the gas block with blue.

Overall, I am pleased with the way this rifle turned out. I have my NV scope on it now and hope to get to the range this week to zero it. I'm hoping I don't have a lot of tuning or issues, because I would like to do some yote hunting soon and would really like to plan a cheap hog hunting trip next month...hint, hint to anyone who may have leads on a good place to hog hunt. I will also be ordering a Vortex scope in the very near future and will use a LaRue QR mount since I will bounce between NV and day scope.

Like I said, I am excited to get to the range and see how it runs. Although I haven't chatted directly with most of you, your various threads have given me great information. Any feedback from the group is appreciated, especially on hog hunting opportunities.

    Oh.. My.. Gawd...

For a first time or anytime build, that is one sweet looking boom stick. Your build list reads like my Christmas Wish List, GFL. Nicely done.

And, once again, you guys living in areas where night hunting is legal are making me envious. PLEASE - post reports and/or videos. It's the only way I get to experience them.

    Congrats.
If it's true that we are here to help others, then what exactly are the others here for?

Thanks Nug. We can night hunt yotes in Indiana but that's it. No hogs up here yet, but I made my first trip to Texas in September and am now officially hooked. I built this rifle with the intent to hog hunt more and head out to Wyoming for a DIY speedgoat hunt. Hopefully Indiana will open up a rifle whitetail season next year and I'll get some use there as well.

Thanks Sarge. Like I said, hoping to get to the range this week. I want to zero the NV scope but may put my M223 on it just to see what the grouping looks like until I get my Vortex ordered. I'll repost as soon as I get some rounds down range.

That is nice! Love the kryptec, did you do that or someone else? I can't wait to finish my second, but first again Grendel. I don't have the first one anymore. I'm such a idiot, lol.
12.5" SBR Grendel - Need Barrel
            Surge - Rugged Suppressor
Been a fan of the Grendel from the very beginning and haven't second guessed that choice one time.

            Aim small, miss small!

I had someone else do the Kryptec. I believe I could do it, but didn't want to buy the airbrush, compressor, etc to do it. That and I didn't want to risk getting caught baking gun parts in the wife's oven.

You must be up in NW Indiana. Pretty sure I saw that camo job on Drakes Custom Facebook page. Nice looking stick, let me know if you are indeed up this way and we can get to the range together.

aclark Drakes is the one who did the camo. I am actually down by Kokomo.

It might just be the photo, but the Kryptec on the handguard seems especially well done. The dark section in the middle really breaks up the outline. Congratulations on your new Grendel. I hope she's a tack driver for you!

The hand guard was done intentionally with more of a worn look since that is where most wear would be. The guy did a great job and nailed what I was looking for.
