    CFE 223 in the Grendel

I have long been a fan of Hodgdon loading data, but with the great results that Grendel fans are getting with CFE 223, I can't understand why they left the Grendel out. Out of 23 or 27 candidates listed for the powder, the Grendel is not there?

I suppose the answer could be, it just takes insterested parties, like ourselves, to experiment and find things that work, even when the manufacturers and creators have not? Or have I missed something?

My hat is off to those who have discovered this data for CFE223 and please keep up the good work! :-)

    Tanks ... jim

They list CFE on their web data and the Hornady 9th edition has it listed in their reloading Manuel.

It's a great powder- 90- 140 grn. units in the Grrrr . I've tried a many- ., 93 Gmx is my rockstar -over cfe for a hunt load. Think- full case loads tho--- 95-105 % fill. It's fine. Been there.

It's my only powder over 90 grns.

Thanks sneaky. That is great to know. Since I am primarily interested in deer hunting, the weight range of pills you mentioned is right up my alley. I will be shooting them in my Savage bolt rifle, and you have spiked my interest in giving the 140's a try. It's also good to know I can "stuff" the case!(don't anyone panic, I'll work up to it :-). My chamber has a reasonably long lead, so I am not too restricted by long loads. Will be making a trip to Virginia in the next couple of months to run the little Grr through it's paces!

                Thanks Again ... Jim :-)

CFE is the only powder I have tried yet as far as reloading the Grendel but so far it has done everything I could possibly want. I am getting in the 2650 range with 123gr bullets and 2950 with 100r bullets with sub MOA groups. I could go higher with the 123's because I am not maxed out yet. If Hornady starts making the 129 Interbond again I am sure I could get it to 2550-2600 fps. I am going to get several more 8lb jugs when I can cause I can use it in every rifle cartridge I reload for.

Joseph5, what rifle and barrel length are you shooting?

I am shooting an AR that I assembled with a Lilja AR24 profile barrel that I got fluted. That barrel is 22 inches long with a 1 in 8 twist and not that heavy. I recently had the chance to handle a PF Neptune VII upper that had a 24 inch bull barrel and it was markedly heavier than mine. It was very evidently high quality work though.

Has anyone collected or seen any data on temperature sensitivity for CFE223 in the Grendel? I know it's more temp sensitive than 8202XBR, but I was hoping to get some idea of what effect an increase in temp from 50F to 95F might be.

How much CFE are you using with the 123gr and 100gr pills?
