Lightweight hunting bullets with good BC?

Looking to get into loading a round that will fly fast and straight from my 24" overwatch barrel. It looks like the 95gr Vmax has great ballistics for its weight, but apparently it's unicorn blood right now.

Has anyone done any load workups with this bullet? What powders are preferred? Would like to get a good "reach out and touch something" round that I could take 'yote hunting.

    Thanks

The vmax is a great light bullet in the Grendel. I use TAC and benchmark powders with them. You might look at the speer 90gn TNT also. They shoot very well also with benchmark. Iv shot them out to 600 yrds with ease.

I also used TAC with 95 grain V-Max but I haven't shot them past 100 yards. I also like the 90 grain TNT with Accurate 2230/X-Terminator. Both shoot good out of my 16" 6.5 Grendel.

Anykl---We have a lighter something in the works. x 2.. Behind the curtain for now. The idea was= LASER BEAM !- I think that we are there now.
We'll know asap what we have, soonish- maybe this week.
Uncertain as to -what to do with this data we have,, do a poll test, send it off to the manuf.- or,--- ask the horde of thoughts?, It's in idle mode for a week more.

The v max is a great bullet- I won't use them on deer, unless you have a perfect neck- head shot capability- lead frags are not cool through the edible meat sections of said deer.

There are at least three lead free bullets in this weight class
          • The 95 jgr Lehgh Defense Controlled Chaos
          • The 100 gr Barnes TTSX
          • The 95 gr Gs Custom 95 gr HV

Lehigh Defense asks about 30 cents per bullet.
Barnes at least twice that. GS custom is truly a premium bullet.

I haven't shot anything but paper with them yet but the 100gr AMAX is very accurate, has a .390 BC, and is available or at least was the last time I looked. I would shoot deer or antelope and smaller with them. I am getting them going 2950 over 34gr of CFE.

Who is "we", if I may ask?

Joseph, I am hesitant to use a non-bonded jacket-core bullet in a hunting situation. A-max is a precision paper killer, not designed for hunting.

apynkl, you did in fact ask! Soon, all will be on here of the project. Hush for now, sorry. Hint: a couple other forum members & I = we== ssssshhhhhhhhhh,,,,,,

The project just got kicked down the road 2 weeks- I'm chomping at the bit here on this. Patience is a good trait to embrace.

Jurassic, I used that setup 5 yrs. ago- then 4 years ago- I used Exterminator= accurate, plus about 100 fps more than Tac. I'll dig thru my notes if interested? Then I made a Gmx to exactly -by outside dimensions- a 100 TTSX== that's been my hunt for whitetail pill since then. It is 95 grns.- due to the added zinc, to make it gilding metal,,, which is way tougher than Barnes's copper .
