    7.62 Grendel?

Anyone seen this yet? Someone is necking up grendel to .308 and supposedly getting decent results...

Robert Whitley of AR-X Enterprises has a new .30-caliber cartridge for AR-platform rifles. The new 30 ARX is based on the 6.5 Grendel parent case necked-up to .30 caliber. The 30 ARX mag-feeds flawlessly in an AR15, while offering excellent accuracy, good velocity, and serious knock-down power.

*edit* This article is from Dec 2013, so probably already posted a gazillion times. If so, my bad.

Some competitors on the AMU teams were using something similar a few years back. What I saw they were calling it a "30 Grendel".

I think the 7.62x39 thing might catch on though! : )

.30 Major was the name. There is a .257 Ted out there, and a 6mm AR Turbo, from Robert Whitley.

Funny, nobody tried a 7mm version yet. Jasmith has a .20cal version.

I went the easy route on my lil .30--7.62 x 40 WT. It's just a tic slower than the .30 major, works great on deer.

Was the Grendel not developed from the 7.62 x 39?

So what is the difference between the 7.62 x 39 and this 30 ARX?

            Strictly speaking, no.

6.5 Grendel was developed from the 6.5 PPC, which was developed from the 6 PPC, which was developed from the .220 Russian, which was developed from the 7.62x39.

I'm guessing, but the 30 ARX probably has a straighter wall so it will stack right in an AR mag.

I don't know the answer to it. Have you googled ".30 ARX"?

I thought they were calling it the 30 Gremlin.

30 ARX has straighter walls. More capacity. Runs at higher pressure. Uses a real .308 bullet. Feeds more reliably thanks to the lessened case taper. Case is slightly shorter on the 30. It has gone by at least five names/variations.

Ohhn one other thing. I have one coming as soon as I pick up a FF tube and gas block. I also have a custom bushing die. I'm excited.

And then there's the .308 arrow. Hornady cases marked .308 arrow, and uses AA bolt. Interesting round.

I have never heard of them, that is interesting.

So is this a 6.8 REM necked up to a 30 cal?

The AA bolt would be too large in diameter for the 6.8 case.
