Can carbon fiber be drilled with regular twist drills or must an end cutting end mill be used? I figure I could get that 6 oz handguard down to about 4 oz with some ventilation holes or maybe even...

I would also have a QUALIFIED gunsmith measure the throat. Might be a bit short causing the chamber pressure to spike. A bit longer throat will bring the chamber pressure down and won't hurt...
They work OK but that pointy end get you all hung up in the brush.
The length of the throat that is re-cut is controled by the man doing the reaming. Recutting an existing throat should be done ONLY in a lathe.
IMO.
Can't really tell from the photo but the reamer might have caught a chip & gouged the chamber wall (worst case). Can you feel a ridge when you run your fingernail over that ring? The other...
The choices are certainly tough. I chose the Apex because of the gripping surface & the robust mounting system.

AR15builder.com is the Brownells site that you can build your Ar. I'm haveing the same problem. I just can't deside what length to go with.
You really don't need a uni-throating reamer. Use a standard 6.5mm throating reamer & your good to go. If the uni-throater were best the bench rest crowd would be useing it instead of a standard...
Shorter is stiffer. What weight barrel do you have?
Good info on the gas blocks. Insights like this is what makes this site so valuable.
first off let me say that I think the Grendel is a wonderful round. I love it. BUT! When the shit hits the fan ( the social & ecominic collapse of the United States) & the gangs & thugs are...
Maybe the steel blocks being heavier than the aluminum ones interupt/disrupt the natural barrel harmonics thereby adversely affecting accuracy. I can envision that a gas block located farther out on...
This is my build so far. DPMS lower & slick side DPMS upper,ACE butt stock, MFT G-27 grip which by the way is THE best grip that I have ever felt on a AR. Oh yeah that little trigger guard thingy...
The LaRue stuffis nice but more than I want to spend on this mount & I would not beneift from the 10MOA. This will be a 300 yd shoot in scoot gun. When i'm shooting 1000 Yd I'm shooting my 6.5x284.
Thanks MrDraco. I appreciate the info. You just save me a mistake & $$$$$. Hows about this Leupold setup? Lupy claims that their setup gives the shooter the proper height & eye relief.

I mean I don't want the scope to be soo low that I have to cant me head over almost sidways to see through the scope. I see this setup on many ARs unfortunatly.
and yes from years of bench rest &...
Thanks Drifter. The scope will probably be a Lupy 3.5x10 so there won't be eye relief problems. I just don't want my head to be stuck up like a grey herrin or canted over till my neck hurts.
I am building a flat top & want to use these weaver rings.
Weaver Four Hole Skeleton Ring...
I don't have the guns. They were built for customers. I'll see if I can get a pic on one though.
Thanks for the welcome folks. The more that I study the grendel the more intriging/confusing it becomes. I have built several 6.5 Grendel bolt guns on the little CZ 527 actions. They all shot sub...
