I have always used CCI BR-4 primers in my 6mm AR (primarily because Robert Whitley recommends them). Now I have a 6.5 Grendel but do not see much mention of the BR-4. Is there a "best" primer for the larger caliber? Is cost an issue? Does the choice depend on bullet weight? Thanks in advance for any advice.

BR-4, 450's, 400's, federal gm, Tula. I bought 10k of the Tula when primers were in short supply. The only load I've used em in was less than satisfactory, but that was only one load. Still have a pile to try out.
Edit: the load I tried the Tulas in was a proven load with BR-4's, and might could be developed with the Tulas to b accurate.Last edited by ricsmall; 04-21-2015, 01:57 AM.Member since 2011, data lost in last hack attack

I expected to hear more about cost or power or consistency, but it sounds like these factors don't seem to matter much.
Have there ever been side by side tests -all else equal but primer?

Any particular reason why no 205 or 205M or Remington 7 1/2s? Nosler Manual lists the Remington 71/2 for their Grendel loads and Hogdon has the 205M. Is shot an OCW test with the 123Amax and CFE223 changing only the primers (71/2, 205 and BR-4) and I have not done all the group and velocity analysis, but none stood out as particularly better than the other. Maybe once I really dig down and analyze the results, I'll see a trend. My "6.5" = 24" AA Overwatch upper 1/9 twist, NC based US Tactical lower, standard A4 6 position stock, AR Gold Trigger, JPS SCS buffer, Vortex 6-24 x 50 FFP PST with EBR-2C MOA reticle
