Thoughts on what bullets are best suited for 1k

When deciding what bullets to use for 1000 yards it seems to me we have three weight classes to choose from:

    Light (100s, 107s, 108s)

    Mids (various 123s)

    Heavies (129+)

The last time I played JBM it seemed like the 123s were the best choice for 1k.

I've got some berger 130 hybrids on back order but I'm not sure the grendel could push them fast enough.

What do you guys think? Should I give the 107/108s a look or stick with the 123 amax until my 130s come in?

I'll let you know in a week. I'm going up to MTC (Cadillac MI) and we will be going out to 1000.

      Awesome!

What loads/bullets will you be taking out with you?

      Rifle specs?

I used 123 Nosler CC loaded with 31.0 grains CFE223 and CCI 450 primers in Lapua cases to shoot at 1000 yards while in Wyoming. This was at 7200' ASL but I have shot at 800 yards at 350' ASL. If my friend finishes his range hopefully I'll be shooting at 1000 yards in the next couple of weeks.

I took my Grendel out 500-1000 in 100 increments last Saturday and it was dead on at every plate. 123 AMAX, 31.2gr CFE223. No problems at 1k. I might take it to the local range tomorrow and do it again at 1k.

I really like the 123gr A-MAX, which I have taken to 1200yds from a 16" at 4400ft ASL, and that was just Hornady factory ammo at 2460fps avg.

The 123gr A-MAX seems to be sized and shaped right to minimize case intrusion, while maximizing BC, and is affordable.

The 123gr NCC is really competitive with it for price point as well.

I also like the 123gr SMK and 123gr Scenar, but have not shot them at long range with the Grendel yet. G1 BC's on all the 123gr are .510, except the Scenar, which is .527.

If someone has Bryan Litz's data on those, that would be interesting to compare to the manufacturers data. Lapua updated theirs for the 123gr Scenar to coincide with the QTU radar data and Litz's evaluation of many different OTM match pills commonly used in competitive long range shooting.
