    WW748 in Grendel

Was looking in an older reloading manual & noticed that 748 seemed to show higher velocities than most other powders. Since I have some, I was thinking of trying it. Has anyone used it & what were your results? Thanks.

Also check this site's "old" Grendel reloading data it gives loads up to 130 gr bullets.

I've used it with 123 scenars and 123 SST's with MOA or better accuracy out of an AA 16" chrome lined barrel.

I use the AA reloading info for the 123 scenars and the Hornady info for the 123 SST's.

W748 burns a little cooler than most powders like it and with lower chamber pressures so should work ok.

I just looked over the data in Volume I and II for it, and don't see higher velocities compare to other powders when used with cup and core. Everything I'm seeing shows lower speeds, except when under the Barnes 110gr Banded Solid and 120gr TSX-BT. It seems to do very well with the solids.

There has been speculation that Berger uses QuickLoad as its principal tool for load development. My own experience with QL in the Grendel is that the predicted velocities can be uncomfortably far off from what I see in tests.

The classic advice to start low (5 - 10%) and work up to find an accuracy node, hopefully before pressures get too high, is doubly sound whenever using QuickLoad as a guide.

It's a good powder with good velocities for 120-123 grain bullets.

                    However, it is very dirty.

I'm getting my best accuracy with 123gr SST bullets using 748. I don't know what velocities I'm getting but the accuracy is sub Mia if I do my part.

What is your load with 748?

I'm using the following load in mine

                          Hornady brass
                          30.5gr. Win 748 powder
                          CCI 450 primers
                          123gr SST or Amax
                          2.2575 C.O.A.L.

I consider this a max load for my rifle so I recommend dropping back a little and working up.
