OAL question

[Predmilitia]

I bought a Hornady OAL guage and decided to measure a few different bullets in my chamber. Here are the results. These are averages of 3 readings each:

85gr Sierra HP Varminter 2.209"
120gr Sierra ProHunter 2.186"
100gr Nosler BT Hunter 2.078"
120gr Amax 2.303"

These measurements seem......short?

can only comment on nosler & Amax-
i have 2 barrels- both SAAMI chambers.
-for the 100 nosler bt I averaged around 2.249'' to the lands/ 1.723'' ogive in lands.
-for the 120 amax i got 2.187'' to the lands / 1.661'' ogive in lands.
-for the 123 amax i average 2.297'' / 1.686'' ogive

I think you have the 123gr amax, not the 120 amax- totally different ogives
also, it will save you much frustration to get a hornady bullet comparator for your calipers to measure off the bullet ogives when seating- this gives a much more consistent/repeatable measurement than
measuring to the bullet tips.

I used a Hornady LnL gauge to check 4 different barrels I had had access to. I tried to use the same bullets in each barrel. The Brownell's barrel was a very early batch before the Grendel II chamber and this barrel puts the Hornady factory A-Max and SST into the lands and need to be seated deeper.
