You probably saw a trend of high behind the shoulder. I have one window in the blind I have to contort around to shoot. Happens to be where 3 of my shots were, all went a little higher than normal, but dropped them right there. No runners this year. All dropped right there.

Last year - the ones I remember

Crop Damage Control on my Dad's Farm 2 years ago. Wide open fields.

              About 200-250 yards
              4 White Tail Does
              All shot within 30 seconds
First at about 200 Yards last at 250 yards
              120 Nosler BT Spitzer
HOT Load chrono'ed at 2700 FPS - not recommended!
2.5-10 Vortex Scope set at 8 power
Heart, Double Lung, Quartering lungs thru back, Quarter from back of lung to front of chest. All dropped within 20 yards of shot.
Too much work though dressing those, don't think I will take that many at a time again. There were 10-12 in the field. I probably could have taken more but this was enough work.

              Another time:
              100-125 yards
              Whitetail Doe
              120 Nosler BT
              Running Deer
Dropped in about 20 feet - head over heels
              Double Lung
Mild Load - probably around 2400 FPS

This year I hope to get out with a 6.5 Creedmoor and see if I can break my record of 695 yards with a Semi.

Record for any rifle is 840 yards with a 300 Win Mag, I built for myself. That rifle took 35 deer with no misses. Then my brother borrowed it and missed 2 times for him and 2 for me till I had to re-sight it. He claims he didn't drop it, but I wonder. It now has over 200 kills from 5 feet to 840 yards. Retired that rifle when I got into 6.5 Grendels about 6 years ago. Last year my Brother in law took a CO Elk with it.

Also want to try out my 300 AAC with suppressor in the small woods behind my house. In a subdivision, but the neighbors are ok with hunting since they are tired of the deer. Drove up my driveway several weeks ago and counted 40 deer in my front lawn.

I'm counting at least 69 DRT's so far. Once we get more numbers, it will be interesting to see the average travel distance.

This is a great thread Roe. Thanks for starting it.

i’ve taken more than a dozen whitetails with the Grendel, split evenly between bucks and does. also took 2 yotes, and a bobcat, those 3 taken with 100gr Nos Bal Tips and 8208 XBR. the deer were shot with 123g Horn SST’s or 120gr Nos Bal Tip’s over CFE223 or 8208 XBR.
i’m too old these days to enjoy dragging deer out of heavy timber, so when possible, i’ll take the neck or walnut shot if i’m sure of it. neck shots for the bucks, and neck/brain for the does. if i’m not sure about the shot, i’ll take double lung, and nothing else. all double lung shots, a few out to 250 yds, were pass throughs. the farthest a double-lunger ran was 50yds.
all 8 head/neck shots were DRT’s. i trust the DRT capablilty, to the extent that, when optional, i’ll wait for a deer to reach an easy to recover spot, with confidence that a head/neck will anchor it there. i did miss the hair i was aiming at on a 50yd and walking buck double-lunger, and the 123gr SST caught the back edge of the shoulder blade, blew everything up, and passed through anyway. it broke the deer down on the spot, so i guess that counts as DRT?
the strangest shot that i still don’t understand, technically, was this: i’m a full camo guy, all the way to the rifle and eyeballs. i was standing, stalk hunting through timber, and had a nice 8 walk right up to me. as it started to pass, i shot it broadside double lung at 10yds. it stopped and stood there, looking around for whatever made the boom. it stood there trying to figure things out for about 15 seconds, and i didn’t move, keeping the crosshairs steady for a follow up. then it just started crabbing sideways for a few steps, toppled over, and that was that. very weird. so i don’t know if that counts as DRT either.
my only complaint with the Grendel, so far, having had no misses or mechanical malfunctions, or bullet failures, was that i’ve yet to need a follow up shot, and wonder why i even have a mag in it.

                        The approximate results so far.

Please note corrupt data, "bundled" data was distributed so-so inside the perimeters given in the post.

Got another one, 4:31 pm 600 yards double lung PPU 120gr HP BT. Ran 300 plus yards in, 120 before it started to show blood, sob took me almost 2 hours to find.
