    Explanation to the text:
    The presentation is inaccurate.
All game regardless of species and bullet used is treated as 1 game shot.
The bullet weight used is identified but not linked to a game shot or type of bullet.
Where bundled data is presented, the data is spread so-so. (example: "I shot 6 deer 0-250 meters, farthest went 50 yards". In this example the 6 deer would be spread out on range shot 0-250 and distance travelled 0-50.)

Shooting range is rounded up/down to nearest 50.
Distance travelled is increments of 25 in attempt to represent line of sight for a dead animal on the ground. This value will be significant or insignificant depending on your terrain and may or may not represent work tracking dead animals.

I am trying to capture the "hunting experience" with the Grendel - why are hunters so happy with a cartridge that on paper looks like "nothing special".

      First Deer with Grendel

Hornady 123gr SST handloaded over 26 gr 8208XBR (its what my rifle likes)
      Whitetail deer
      150 yards (ranged)
Base of neck joining to shoulder
      0 yards

Kansas firearm season started on December 2nd.....I was eager to be out with my Grendel and harvest an animal or so. (I have three tags for my area)

Unfortunately, I missed a really nice buck early by knowing I didn't have a lot of time for shot and I hurried (I FAILED to remember the range I had taken earlier where this buck did eventually stop for me.) the shot and was high. Let's hope for another.

A management buck appeared walking right to left at 150 yards and I put the crosshair right on the front of the neck and hit it in the neck where the shoulders start. Went right down and that tag was filled.

I hope that my time allows for at least one of the two doe tags that I have left.

      Happy shooting to all!

I think that's a great question. I used to shoot a Browning BAR - 270 Winchester. Ammo capacity and rifle weight aside, for me it comes down to recoil. I can shoot a rifle with nearly half the recoil of my old 270Win, and still get the same results on game. I also have faster follow up shots when needed as I can recover and get back into the scope quicker. Chuck Hawks website notes my 270Win puts out approx 16-19 ft/lbs of recoil, whereas my Grendel shooting a 120gr is in the 8.9 ft/lbs range. To me that's a no-brainer especially when the Grendel has been such a performer on putting meat down.

It wasn't my deer, just my rifle. My cousin was the one doing the shooting. She'll be the first one to tell you it was more luck than skill. I see all sorts of comments saying it's all about bullet placement, rather than caliber. I was just blown away at the performance of the bullet. I spend roughly 2-4 hours at the range weekly. Not worried about time behind the rifle.

I suspect marksmanship plays a significant part in the Grendel success. I believe many of the Grendel owners are excellent shots. Perhaps there are more experienced than new shooters getting a Grendel rifle.
As the data is starting to show, the majority of game shot with the Grendel falls on the spot or within a short enough distance to require little work finding. Every animal seems to be shot in an area that can be called "vital".

Of the 25 or so deer I've taken with a Grendel, probably only 2 or 3 were DRT

I've got 5 this year so far. All with 123gr SST's over 30.2gr of CFE. 4 were 100 yards or less. 2 went 25 yards, 1 went 50 yards, and one went about 100 yards. All shot in the vitals. My fifth deer was about a 300 yard shot and went about 75 yards. This one I hit in the rear......somehow (I think she may have taken a step after my shot, because that's the way she was headed)
