    2nd Texas Hunting Trip

I didn't get to go hunting the 2nd weekend of season, so I was down at the lease the 3rd weekend. I saw a couple of monster South Texas bucks but couldn't get a shot. The rut is in full and they were chasing does. I saw 4 different buck / doe sets Saturday afternoon. I didn't get one of the monsters, but got a doe and an 8 point. It was my buddies first trip of the season and he got 2 8 points. So we had a truck full of deer.

Of course my two were shot with the Grendel, the buck was a 100 yard neck shot. He was standing behind a bush with about 1 foot of opening, then he was have stepped out of my sight and into oblivion.

The tally for the year so far is 2 does, 2 bucks and 5 hogs, I have 1 doe tag remaining. That was with two trips of a day and half each. My freezer will be full, so I may be done for the year unless dad wants an extra doe.

Congrats! Were you able to see your own hits through the scope?

Been a fan of the Grendel from the very beginning and haven't second guessed that choice one time.

No, I wish I were better at that. I could see the buck go down, but that's about it.

That's what I mean, as opposed to the scope coming off target, then looking with naked eyes trying to figure out what happened, which is common with heavy recoiling rifles.
