2nd deer in as many days with my new grendel. Went hunting close to home Sunday evening and saw this big boy right before dark. Came out about 100 yards away thru a pasture and the grendel dropped him like a sack of hammers. Shot was a little to the right and required a follow up neck shot, best I could tell bullet broke one shoulder got some heart and must've landed in opposite shoulder as I did not recover bullet when I field dressed him and there was no exit hole. Shot him with factory 123 grain sst

Excellent. Congrats!
Usually after shooting I'll just wait about 15 minutes before climbing down from my stand to go over to the deer. Gives me time to calm down, savor the moment, make some mental notes of where I last saw him (by that white log, or such) in case I need to start tracking, and let him bleed out and "go to sleep." Lot of times a wounded deer will bed down as soon as he feels safe, and will then bleed out. If a guy runs up to him right after shooting, his adrenaline will kick in and he'll push himself to run . . . and run and run. Now you've got a tracking job on your hands. I like to avoid that hassle.
On the other hand, one time my kid made a mid-spine shot and his deer was down, but bawling, and we went up right away to put it down.:: 6.5 GRENDEL Deer and Targets :: 6mmARC Targets and Varmints and Deer :: 22 ARC Varmints and Targets
