    Thicker walled upper

    Question for the horde.

I understand you want to use a thicker walled upper for accuracy and to support longer barrels, but here is my question.

Is there a thick walled forged upper being made are does one have to use billet to get a thicker walled upper?

Gotta go billet. The only forged uppers I am aware of are AR15/M16/M4 profile.

The others are either extruded or machined from billet.

DPMS makes an extruded "Slick Side" upper which is quite stout.

I have one on my long range shooter, which is quite accurate and stiff.

Keep in mind, though, that conventional upper receiver vice block clamps will not fit this upper (or most other billet uppers, for that matter).
If it's true that we are here to help others, then what exactly are the others here for?

        Thanks for the info gentelman.

That puts to rest a question that came to mind when talking with two freinds of mine that build their own ar rifles.

The Vltor MUR is actually a thicker walled forged upper. If you search you can find them in the 165.00 range.

Yes I seen that upper in several places and was planning on buying it, but got confussed because my freinds and other people have told me that all forged uppers are mil spec and do not have thicker walls like a billett upper would have.

Right now It is a toss up between the mur and joboobs spartan billet upper.

I have the VLTOR MUR on mine and like it. The finish on it is nice and the upper is stout enough to hold my 24" BBL.

I have a dpms slick side lo pro upper that I converted to side charger and love it. It is extremely thick and the rifle is very accurate. For $90 it's hard to beat

Why can't you use an AR15 profile ?

Thanks for all the info gentelmen, I have decided to go with the joebobs spartan billet upper as soon as it comes back instock.

I like the looks and lines of it better then most other uppers and the fact that the brass deflect and foward assest is attacthed vie a allen head screw instead of a roll pin like the vltor mur.

And the price just cant be beat 109 on joebobs site and its a billet, so thats the upper im going to give a try.

Again thanks for all the info fellas.
