  • Quite true. However, circumstances have changed greatly since the initial ads would have been placed. Why cater to the niche market when you can allocate those recourses to the equivelent of making snow cones in hell. Not to mention, this thread was started 15 months ago with "Wolf Steel case will soon be available in stores everywhere!". There doesn't seem to be much of a rush...

What started out as a niche cartridge for the Russians morphed into a LOT more than anticipated. We all expected it would be run like the previous Wolf Grendel, on a 7.62 line that was temporarily reconfigured. However, the Russians decided to go all out, and built a line dedicated to Grendel ammunition from the ground up. They went the full developmental route, too, instead of simply following a set recipe. They tried different configurations of coatings, both polymer and lacquer, and multiple different bullets and powders.

They worked with Bill Alexander to actually get rifles imported so that they could test in Russia as well as send ammunition to Bill Alexander for testing here.

It became a much bigger project than anyone had projected.

The ads go in 3 months or so before publication, Wolf would be spending money 9-12 months BEFORE anyone had a chance to buy the ammo, meaning that they would see no return on their investment for as long as 12 months! Does that sound like a good business plan? In fact, running ads that far in advance would only HURT them, since people would be ticked the product wasn't on the shelf!

            Something doesn't match up!
Yeah that never happens. Just ask Springfield about their ads last year for the XDs "In Stores Now" three months before they shipped to distributors :-)

            • This sound just about the way it went with Wolf 4-5 years ago. First Wolf announces that they are coming out with ammo. Them maybe 2 years later a little come in -and goes only to AA for testing. A year later, AA announces that its not quite what was first thought. Then, about 9 months later some comes in for the rest of us. I believe we will eventully see some. But it will be a while.

I can understand it taking a while when it first came out, because the had no experience with the round. But 5 years and 2 loadings later? They should have thier act together. Especially considering they've had it listed for 3 plus years. While it may have started as a niche cartridge, wolf 6.5 is flying off the shelves wherever it is, so the demand is definitely there, even if its not yet at 7.62 and 5.56 levels.

This is a completely different situation. Wolf doesn't manufacture ammunition, they contract with munitions factories to build it. They spent years trying to get TULA to gear up and make steel case, before they finally took it to Barnaul. Barnaul, by all accounts, makes a superior product, and decided to put the full court press on and do it right, evidently.

Wolf Gold, both the 123 and 120 grain MPT, is made by a completely different company, completely different engineering staff.

The day has come, Wolf Steel case will soon be available in stores everywhere! Well, soon may be a relative term, but there are actually steel cases in the hands of those who need them to check loads and pressures. David Fortier reports that Wolf has been at the Big 3 meetings he and other members of the press are

And all was good and there was much joy and merriment and drunken debauchery throughout the land.

But as time past, the joy turned to sadness, then sorrow and finally despair. with much mutterings and grumbles. Cats were kicked, dogs were beaten, wives were abused and there was much torment.

Oh where, for art though, is the sacred and wonderous 'steel cased ammo' the people thus spoke. Have we been forgotten, abandoned, deserted ?

And the people wept and continued to slave away for the masters hoping beyond hope that their salvation would come...

                            It's coming, I promise, I promise!

Wolf showed it at SHOT, they've issued press releases. Unlike previously, this is Barnaul, not TULA, and the Barnaul folks took this very seriously. Initially, we believed they would run it on a 7.62x39 line, but they decided to build a complete line for 6.5 Grendel, and in addition to a dedicated line, they plan on continuous runs, to the tune of 1,000,000+ rounds/month.

It will get here, though the current market makes things even weirder. TULAmmo announced they weren't importing any 5.56/5.45 this year!

                            • So if they've done all this testing and development, will we also see tweaks and improvements trickle down to the "Gold" line 123gr SP and 120gr MPT ammo?

Barnaul doesn't build the Wolf Gold line, thats PRVI Partisan, so I doubt we'll see changes.
