    New Alex-A Upper barrel

    Hey guys,
Brand new here. Just bought the 24" Overwatch upper from Midway last week. Anyone know where the stock barrels come from? I think its a 6 groove, 1/9 416R stainless...

    Thanks,
    John

According to a couple other threads, AA's barrels are made in house.

Welcome aboard. That is a great deal Midway has on those.

Not all of the barrel work is done in house. For some reason I can't think of the barrel mfg.

          Thanks guys
Wow, lot of good information on here. Been reloading for years, just getting started with the Grendel.

Looks like I need to order the Grendel manuals!

My LGS has (2) 8lb jugs of 8208XBR in stock now for $180... Thinkin on buying one.
I picked up a lb of CFE223 to do some testing while I was there.
123 Amax's will be used with both powders.

Both the XBR and the CFE223 seen to be two very popular powders for this round...
My question is, do you guys think it too early in the game for me to buy that much of the XBR?
            I also load for the .223, .243, and .308...

              I use 8208 with 69 TMK's 5.56, 123 Sierra MK's, Scenars, and AMAX 6.5 Grendel, 175 TMK 308. It's my current go to powder.

No problem. Will be chronographing loads this week if weather permits. Been windy here in Maryland. I find 8208 to be a clean powder in my AR's. My 5.56 69 TMK load blew my mind with the velocity I'm getting. 2920's out of a 20" barrel. 6.5 Grendel 20" barrel with 123 Amax's was near 2550. My 308 load is pushing the 175 TMK 2700-2750. Still developing that load.

The barrel on my Grendel is a 24" Shilen from an Overwatch. I don't know if they changed mfgers, but Shilen made mine.

Hey John, I bought an overwatch from AA a few years ago and I am pretty sure the barrel was from ER Shaw. It is a 1/9 twist SS.

I shot 123 SST using XBR vs AR-Comp with my 20" Wilson and the AR-Comp showed much better results. The XBR shot pretty crappy. I was loading the XBR on the high end (27.7gr - 28.3gr) and I have seen others get good results around 27.4gr so I might try the milder load in hopes that it retains decent velocity.

How can you tell who made the barrel? I bought an Overwatch about a month ago.

Many on this board will tell you

                            8208 for 100 class bullets

                            Cfe223 for 120+

They will also warn you that 8208 will spike quickly when you approach max load with the heavier pills
