    Deer with 6,5 Grendel

After this autumns abysmally poor weather, I was finally able to go deer hunting again.

The "Grendel knockdown" thread gave me enough confidence to use the Grendel as I would my 6,5x284. Practical results where superb, I was confidently shooting deer out to 400m with results as I would expect from any cartridge.

Here is the first film, I'm hoping to have enough material for 3-4 total.

Nice shot. What was the range? What was the significance of the tape measure?

Range was 309 meters and the tape measure was just to show the size of the deer and its vitals.

Great shot with expected results from that placement. Wish Thyr was still around for that recovery for you, tough to loose a great hunting partner like that condolences on the loss Roe.

Thanks for the measurements on the deer, they are a bit smaller than I am accustom to with our whitetails and mule deer.

Thanks for bringing us on the hunt. Sorry to hear about the dog. Is he named Thyr after with respect to Norse Mythology? I am only familiar with the spelling Tyr, so that might be off base.

Sorry on the loss of your buddy

They look about like the size of the little Sitka blacktails we had on Kodiak. The does were around 80-90lbs tops.

                      What a great video again.

How far did the deer make it into the trees?

Condolences for the loss of your companion. Great video, I love hearing the woods wake up when I am hunting as well. Liked the drag technique as well, very interesting.

                            Thanks for that guys.
The deer actually ran a full 70 meters, which is very long. But then again, I hit it too low and it needed time to bleed out.

The drag technique (putting one deer leg into the other) makes it a little easier to drag deer as you don't need to "hold on" as much as when you get a handle that will let you put the drag force inline with the deer.

One of the biggest differences from here and home is all the birdsong. The weather is simply so hard where I live that there are very few birds around. In the forest I am constantly accompanied by birds, some of them very curious and inquisitive of me...
