just saw this thread. I have always shot berger VLD's jammed into the lands on my target rifles. On my 6mm ar turbo I single load and get quarter inch groups at 100 yards consistently.
that said with my .308 hunting rifle I wanted to shoot the berger hunting VLD. That was before Brian's hybrids. I wanted a mag length load. Worked for months trying to find it. One day I was reading my Berger reloading manual and read the part about finding the jump. 0.030 changes in seating depth? I was skeptical. Tried it and found my jump. Half inch groups at 0.127 off the lands. Who would have thought?
a hint should be that the hornady SST COAL is about 2.240 and they shoot pretty good.
that mag length jump is out there. you just have to find it.
