10 Hogs Down - Fun Hunt

I got invited on a hog eradication hunt with a buddy who does hog and predator control on several properties near where I hunt. Aside from the first hog we shoot where he uses a 7.62x39 AR15, my shooting and the rest of his shooting is with Grendels. We are both shooting Hornady SST123 gr. bullets.

So not a lot of details that I usually include as the properties were unfamiliar to me and we didn't have time to spend pacing off shot distances or cutting up hogs. We hunted some big fields and made very long stalks and then made some very long carcass recoveries.

It was a great time. I hope y'all enjoy the video.

    That looked like fun!

Still a lot of work to be done.

Way to go, like we expect the Grendel keeps stacking them up

I'd love to see the difference in the wound channel between the Grendel and the 7.62x39

Keep in mind that it isn't a simple matter of comparing calibers, but bullet performance. On another hunt last year, my buddy had a .308 (150 gr. Remington Core Lokt) and I was shooting Grendel Hornady SST. Initially, we assumed the larger wound channel was the .308. Then we found the remainder of the bullets and the bigger wound was from the SST, though both penetrated about equally far. The SST had also shed a lot of weight in the process. Had the .308 been an SST, I would predict that it would have had a larger wound than the Grendel.

Way to whack 'em and stack 'em. Lot's of fun, but it turns into work real quick.

It does, and the more successful, the more work. It is worse when you can't drive in a vehicle to move the carcasses around, but that is part of the process. Keeping the landowners happy is important.
