So the recent speculation regarding d073-06 propellant & A2520

Anyone have a chance to try the "new" 2520 yet?
So the recent speculation of A2520 & d073-06 propellant recently hitting the market being the same identical product is incorrect. Nevertheless I will be interested in seeing how these propellants compare with actual worked up load Data in the future.

Has anyone considered the variances of powder between lots. If my memory serves me correctly, the powders can vary within 10% between lots and be considered the standard.

I think that it was the same recipe- handed over. Get a lb., and try it out. 2520.

Good to see Mseric back as a soldier on here.- we shot together in northern MN 4-5 yrs ago. He's a trustworthy guy ! Wow! Brotherhood.

I wouldn't worry of 3% variances- The goal is to be same as as possible- Its' fine for trials , as long as u roll your own.

Guess my circa 1997 2520 is Czech. Still use AA no 2 manual data.

have not shot it for a while never had a chrony until about a year ago. Rounds always stayed in the black when shooting my gas gun, if I did my part.

Finally broke down and got an AR and the 6.5 grendel, plan to shoot it in both, so will keep you posted.

I did load some 308 a couple of months back, did not notice any wierd smell. Was going to the range with my son. He bought a model 70 300 WSM. Thought maybe it would be better if he worked on his shooting technique with a 308 and 150 grainers first. Long story short, he got a migraine and we did not hit the range that day.

recently shot 10 rounds each of "old" AA2520 (circa 2009) vs "new" 2016 AA2520.
                  20'' kreiger barrel
2x AA lapua brass, CCI 450's
                  123 Amax
29.5gr AA2520 "plinking round" averages 1/2'' 5 rd groups for me
                  magnetospeed chrono.
                  "old" AA2520 av= 2484 fps
                  "new" AA2520 av= 2462 fps

                    What was the standard deviation?

Chances are the 22 fps difference is within two standard deviations. I think the professional statistician would tell us that we can't say the averages are different.

                        "old" AA2520 ES= 52 SD= 16
                        "new" AA2520 ES= 27 SD= 9

pretty new to all of this chrono stuff- I was all giddy shooting new 6.5 SAUM & got #'s jumbled up- glad I went "old School" & wrote out each result as I went.

                            Thanks for the added info.

Looks like they are very close. The intriguing part is the small standard deviation for the new stuff.

Ifbyou have the inclination and time, you could try shooting four more 5-shot strings. That will tell a lot about consistency of the new stuff and how close the averages are.
