    Wyoming Antelope (with video)

I hope this video attachment works. If not, I'll keep trying.

We were pretty sure we'd be bringing some meat back home, but I really didn't expect to bring back a souvenir like this video.

That was great. Loved the commentary as well.

"He's looking like he had a long liquid lunch..."

How many yards did he run? Looked like maybe 40-50yds to me.

My guess was about 50. I hate to admit that I missed my first shot clean (no video) when I was trying to hold for wind. It was about 30 mph, mostly behind me. On that shot, I ignored the wind hold and hit him about 6" back (right about where my ballistic chart said it should be). Anyway, lung and liver damage with a pass through.

Thanks. I believe that shot was a little further than I'd ever attempted on a target.

Nice shot. What did you use to determine distance?

We had a laser rangefinder and then dialed the scope.

There's some more info and a couple pics in this post:

So we're after pronghorn antelope in northeastern Wyoming this weekend. I have to describe it as a target-rich environment. 330 or so yard shot on a nice buck. He ran about about 50 yards and folded up. Our hunting buddy (who is an outfitter in the area) said that's the first antelope he's seen taken with a black rifle.

I happen be lucky enough to have a very good friend that owns a ranch in this area. If anybody is interested in a hunt up that way, check out http://fourhorseoutfitters.net/. Best of the West films on their place and Cabela's Outdoor Adventures sells hunts with them. One of their guys took some time off to show us around and he had more cool toys in his truck than in the BatMobile (including the cell phone/spotting scope combo that recorded that video).

When they aren't guiding hunts, they are rodeo cowboys, and they have stories that do not end.

I know this was awhile ago but I'm just seeing it for the first time. Great goat Drillboss. I think hunting antelope is about as fun as it gets. It's such an challenge to stalk them on the open plains. My heart started thumping just watching your video.

For whoever was asking, I think antelope meat is delicious and encourage you to try some. It is super lean though, so if you process it yourself you may want to mix in a bit of ground chuck or pork fat, otherwise it's really hard to cook without getting dry.
