If your police chief gives you trouble then a sheriff, DA or judge in your county/jurisdiction can also sign off. Then you send in the forms with a 200$ check and play the waiting game until you've been cleared.
"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself."

It's about the same amount of paperwork as buying a car. And no criminal background for approval.

Sound suppressors are openly-available in Europe and even used in hunting, to prevent noise-encroachment on nearby communities. Let's get the US NFA laws within sensible constraints."

When I go to Finland, suppressors are right on the shelf next to fishing tackle and bait, really.

I signed the petition...so I guess that puts me on the list.
I don't know anything about a petition, but the suppressors in Europe thing is pretty sweet.

Yes, but obtaining a firearm there can be a pain or impossible. Go figure...

I would recommend the trust route as it cuts out the CLEO sign off requirements. I created mine using Quicken Will Maker but any competent lawyer can draft you one if it makes you feel more comfortable.

That's kinda ironic, but yeah I might go the lawyer route, maybe I can find someone who is in my family who is one

Yes, in Europe, you have to ask permission and get approval for each and every individual purchase from your local police, and you are never allowed to use a firearm in a defensive role. They can only be transported to and from the range, or hunting area...no exceptions. They also only put murderers and rapists away for a few years, then release them. Getting a machinegun collector's license is as easy as filing a collection plan with the local police, showing you are a member of a shooting club in good standing for x amount of years, and waiting approval. No US pre-86 issues there either, so prices are very reasonable for machineguns. I'm speaking mostly about Finland, but the laws are changing.

Texas has its share of LEOs who will not sign off on applications...a friend of mine waited 3 months for his Sherrif to sign off until I told him about NFA trusts not requiring LEO sign off...he now has his suppressor!

Petition website now displaying the following for the above link:

Thanks for your interest in We the People, a new tool on WhiteHouse.gov that allows all Americans to ask the Obama Administration to take action on a range of important issues facing our country.

The petition you are trying to access has expired, because it failed to meet the signature threshold.

While you can’t sign this petition, there may be other petitions on We the People on a similar issue that you’d like to add your name to. Or, you can create your own petition.

So the $200 is the tax for the suppressor, machine gun, or other destructive device. It was meant to create an additional exorbitant tax decades ago, cuz it was still $200 way back when. And as we've all heard our parents say..."I used to by a handful of candy when I was your age for a nickel." So imagine what $200 was 50+ years ago. The 200 bucks gets you the tax stamp that literally is a stamp on a document you are suppose to have with the device every where you take it.

I do have one for my AAC M4-2000 suppressor. I did have to wait 6-months to finally get the stamp from the ATF after submitting fingerprints and state LEO paperwork. It's a waiting game.
