These two field scalpels are away today. One with a pocket sheath and the other in a (near) horizontal belt sheath

A few more knives away after final sharpening tomorrow. This is the safari knife that was ordered with the brass bolster and birdshead grip hande in walnut instead of the original patern handle in micarta or buff horn.

And some more field scalpels. Two have the belt sheath (one buff horn and the other in olivewood) and the third is a neck knife sheath.

I have refined the shape a little for the olivewood knife and this will njow be my patern as it sits a little more comfortably in hand.

I decided to make a more apropriate holder for the little olivewood knife that mother took a liking to so at her 90th birthday at the weekend I said I would get it sorted this week so this is what I came up with. I didn't have a large enough piece of olivewood but I think the contrast of the walnut is a better look anyway
This is what I did to make the little knife more available for her. It will be screwed onto one of her cupboard facings, be simple to retrieve and replace, while being secure in keeping.

The recess has to follow the curviture of the handle to get a good fit and have with enoug depth at the ase to give full support to the handle end

What a nice gift, the olive wood handle does contrast well with the walnut holder. That is a clever and aesthetic idea for a knife holder. Well done!

The last few weeks has seen a project come to fruition with an EDC knife and sheath design that I have been working on with the owner of the Africa Hunting forum for a "forum knife" with the forum logo embossed on the sheath.
The brief was for a small EDC knife that would be suitable for everyday chores and stand in for a small game knife as well. There were a few different approaches to this ideal so there is a healthy pile of both blade and sheath discards that failed either one of both of our expectations and in the end this is what will be offered to the forum. Initially it was just the horizontal carry sheath that was envisaged but I made a standard vertical carry sheath as an option as some may prefer the standard vertical sheath. The patterns will go into my portfolio for non forum buyers but the logo will only be embossed for the intended forum members.

I had designed this one a while back but this was the first time I decided to make a couple.
A good friend had given me a piece of beech burl and thought to use it on this smaller handled knife as it had some barkpockets I had to fill and would not suit anything larger. Did another one in buffalo horn and one in walnut as well

I have 175 24g shot shell cases to shorten and form into Martini Henry 577-450 case. I made up the jig today to shorten them. after cleaning up (inside and outside deburing) they will be annealed and the start of the forming down can begin. The 24 g case is 16mm straight case so the first forming takes it down to 15mm which is just an unused 7x61S&H die drilled out to suit with a beveld edge to replicate the shoulder angle. I made a simple depth stop out of copper tube to stop the forming at the right depth. Then they are put into a 14mm form die (second 7mm die drilled out) annealed again then put into the 13mm die which is just a 7/8 bolt that has been drilled to suit. After that the case can be put into the LEE FLS die and is ready to load after I cast a few hundred 465gn bullets and paper patch them. Will take a few pics and a video or two for the forum.

I picked up the mannlicher 8x57 I built a while back when I was through Central Otago the other day as after a lot of shooting there is the start of a chip at the rear of the tang so I will repair and relieve that area for him.
Have a few lambs that we are bottle feeding 3 times a day till I wean them and the garden is in the maintainence period with half the seasons planting done. Next winters firewood is needing to be got over the next few months so there is plenty ahead of me.
