I'm ignorant on optics. Buddy of mine can get wholesale prices so I'm going to give him a set amount and tell him to get me what he thinks is best choice. He's a Vortex fan.

What's your set amount and we can all give suggestions. And what is the rifles purpose? Brush hunting, medium range, long range

I strongly recommend that you educate yourself to a high level of comfort on optics before you turn your friend loose with the checkbook. While I am a satisfied owner of three different Vortex scopes, I can tell you that they aren't the end-all, be-all to all things scoped.

Optics come in such a wide variety of configurations and quality, it is entirely possible to end up with a very nice, but unsuitable rifle scope on your nice, new Grendel.

You need to determine what the rifle's primary purpose will be. Hunting? Tactical? Long Range Target? It is universally sound to know what purpose your new ____ will serve prior to shopping among the hundreds, if not thousands, of choices.

Scopes suitable for general hunting, while light, may leave you dissatisfied when attempting to shoot 5 rounds through a cheerio at 500 yards. Weight-wise, a cheerio killing scope will have you switching from shoulder to shoulder like you were back in the army, while you trudge through the woods. (Your rig is going to be problematic in this area enough, as it is.) Scopes designed for tactical work are often usable for hunting but, while they are improving, are seldom suitable for long range target shooting.

Allow me to offer the following read:

                        https://www.americanhunter.org/articles/2016/7/25/how-to-choose-a-riflescope/

While the author does sprinkle a few technical sounding terms in the article (easily cured with a few google searches), he lays out most of the things you need to consider in a very logical way.

Good luck, and enjoy your new rifle. It's quite a looker.

If it's true that we are here to help others, then what exactly are the others here for?

Vortex makes good stuff. But heed the advice others are giving and decide what you want to do with the rifle and buy a scope to match. Be sure to save budget for a good mount!

Will just end up a target gun. Thanks for tips, my buddy is very knowledgeable about the subject. He's helping me teach me about optics and long range shooting.
